Dark Encounter (2019)

This sci fi drama built around the loss of a child was unexpectedly stunning. It appears to be an alien abduction film for the first hour with real tension until it moves into another gear entirely for the final act. I dont think I have seen anything quite like this before and I will be watching it again.

The Darkest Hour

Gary Oldman impressed, but I found the film a slog at times and thought the pacing and editing was strange, turned into an inappropriate and unfunny comedy at times. But when it hits form, very very good

RocknRolla

7.5/10

Enjoyable action/crime film directed by Guy Ritchie that totally passed me by on release. Great cast with Gerard Butler, Tom Hardy and Idris Elba. Available on Amazon Prime just now.

Extraction.

It's pretty new to Netflix and features Chris Hemsworth as a mercenary who is contracted to rescue the son of an Indian crime lord who has been kidnapped and taken to Bangladesh.

Although there is no real depth to the plot, there is plenty action, explosions, gun and knife fights and it's shot pretty well. 6.5/10

Art house film. Pretty good, slow but an intense film with a great performance by Guy Pearce. Seen alot worse and fans of these types of films give it a shot

Scarface.

9/10.

Watched it last night with the wife, we'd both forgotten what a great film it is, must've been 20+ years since we'd seen it.

The soundtrack makes it more hard work than I remember

Aye, its a bit dated but the story and Pacino's performance make it.

Cardboard Gangsters...A group of young Cardboard Gangsters attempt to gain control of the drug trade in Darndale, chasing the glorified lifestyle of money, power and sex.

A decent watch, nothing exceptional

Don't like the soundtrack? I love it. The boat scene at the start. Wow. Giorgio Morodor IIRC

It's aged terribly, the sound's grating and unpleasant IMO

Den of Thieves

Gérard Butler heads up a police team in LA looking to foil a group of bank robbers who are looking to plunder a federal reserve which nobody has managed to breach before.

Plenty of gunfire and a bit of suspense. Pretty enjoyable and can be found on one of Channel 4s channels.

Public Enemies

On paper this film should be gold - a gangster thriller about notorious bank robber John Dillinger, featuring Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Stephen Graham and Marion Cotillard, directed by Michael Mann. But the script is weak and the cinematography looks cheap. Disappointing.

Watched Battle of the River Plate, the other day on BBC2. Based on the story of the British Warships, Ajax and Exeter, along with the New Zealand Warship Achilles encounter with the German pocket Battleship Graf Spee in the South Atlantic in the early months(December 1939) of WWII. Although made in 1956, it's made in colour and the battle scene is done very well.

I also like the fact that the captain of the Graf Spee was portrayed as a good man and a good sailor. 8/10 for me.

Proper boxing classic. Paul Giamatti on form, what a performance and Russell Crowe, faultless, he does the big scenes well as an actor. What a film, actually didn't want it to end. High quality

10/10

Watched it years ago.Agreed one of the best boxing films made.

Not a Motley Crue fan, still don't know any of their songs. Look at us, we are the biggest, baddest rock band ever. Group of American tossers. Only gave it 5 for Ozzy turning up and showing them how a real rock animal behaved.

The Joker

8/10

Better than I expected and Joaquin Phoenix was astonishing. Great to hear Gary again.

The Mighty Thor

Watching the 22 film Marvel Universe in order from the start.

Made it up to today's final couple of films Avengers Infinity War then Endgame.

They're all decent stand alone films but watching them in order makes such a difference in terms of plot and character development.

It's taken weeks mind you 👍

I saw an article a while back telling you the specific order to watch them in, oddly it isn’t the order of release!!

chronologically according to setting year i think it should be. i got this from an article, the only one i disagree with (but would need to watch again to confirm) i'm sure the end credit scene for the incredible hulk suggests that it is before the first ironman. General Ross says to Stark nice suit when he walks into a bar, i think that is the lead into him becoming ironman

  • Captain America: The First Avenger (takes place during WWII)
  • Captain Marvel (takes place in 1995)
  • Iron Man (takes place in 2010)
  • Iron Man 2 (takes place after Iron Man)
  • The Incredible Hulk (time unspecified, pre-Avengers)
  • Thor (takes place six months before Avengers)
  • The Avengers (takes place in 2012)
  • Iron Man 3 (takes place six months after The Avengers)
  • Thor: Dark World (post-Avengers, pre-Ultron)
  • Captain America: Winter Soldier (post-Avengers, pre-Ultron)
  • Guardians of the Galaxy (sometime in 2014)
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (after Guardians)
  • Avengers: Age of Ultron (takes place in 2015)
  • Ant-Man (takes place in 2015)
  • Captain America: Civil War (post-Ultron, pre-Infinity War)
  • Spider-Man: Homecoming (post-Civil War, pre-Infinity War)
  • Doctor Strange (takes place in 2016)
  • Black Panther (takes place in 2017)
  • Thor: Ragnarok (post-Ultron, pre-Infinity War)
  • Avengers: Infinity War (takes place in 2017)
  • Ant-Man and The Wasp (ambiguous, but fits nicely between IW and Endgame)
  • Avengers: Endgame (starts in 2017, finishes in 2022)
  • Spider-Man: Far From Home (post-Endgame)

Not great but not bad

7/10

Panic Room

2 guys breaking into a room. Not very exciting but well acted. And Fincher directs it with his usual polish, but there's not much there

Great actor Benedict. I also like Hummingbird.

Going to be controversial and say he should be in more

 Birds Of Prey.

just don’t. It makes Suicide Squad look like a masterpiece. Unless you’re one of those obsessive Margot Robbie fans it’s not worth it, and quite frankly Jurnee Smollett who’s plays Black Canary is the hottest woman in it by a mile.

He's in 15 Storeys High with Sean Lock. It's a comedy series from about 15/20 years ago where he plays Sean's oddball flatmate. Worth a watch.
