If the likes of Caldwell and Bramble can play Premiership football, I see absolutely no reason why Big Zal can't either.

Thunderstruck

Zal, if he is to be captain, is IMO, a perfectly sensible decision. He has shown over the last season and a bit that he is a natural leader on the pitch; he encourages, organises, communicates and leads by example.

The myth that he costs us a goal a game is just that, a myth. Yes, he makes very occasional errors that can be costly but name a player that hasn't/ doesn't. More regularly, he is the mainstay of defence, winning absolutely everything in the air. Some good examples against OF in last year or so. He also good at getting the ball out of defence - a recent and telling example being his run forward and interchange in the lead up to the equaliser at Easter Road a couple of months ago.

His disciplinary record has rightly caused concern but last year he had as good a record as can be expected of a central defender. In his defence, he has also been on the wrong end of shocking decisions, most notably the Miller incident at Pittodrie.

I hope to see him, as Hearts Captain, holding silverware aloft this season.
