Ayre Hotel, Kirkwall.

Looks good, SUTOL, but just in case Dunks was going downmarket, I'll say it was the Peedie Hostel.

I'm just smarting because I should have realised it was Kirkwall. I used to live in Orkney. That'll teach me for walking around looking at the pavement most of the time. :)

What's the hotel like, I've never stayed in it.

Or even been in the bar. :shocked3:

It's fine. I've always had a room in the 'new' wing as opposed to one of the older ones, so nice and up to date. Decent shower and scran, so can't complain. Usually full of tour bus folk though, which is why I'll be in the St Ola in a few weeks. Bit more old school, but I like it.

Should I take some of these up with me next time? :D

Last time I was up I stayed in the Storehouse, which was very nice.

I have stayed in the Orkney hotel a few times as well, good selection of whisky in the bar.

Will check out the Storehouse.

Aye, have been to the Orkney. Helgi's good too with decent local beers, but a bit small. Last time I was up, I tried the Old Library - great place for an explore. It's a music shop & venue, toy store, cafe/bar/restaurant and really does have a bit of everything. Decent beers too

I usually go to Helgi's for some food and a beer or two. And to the Shore as well. Skippers is ok, but don't/didn't have Scapa Special on draft. I've not been to the Old Library yet, but will check it out next time.

The Storehouse just opened last year and the room was very nice, there's also a large busy restaurant, but not much of a bar. It's marketed as a restaurant with rooms rather than a 'hotel'.

The Italian restaurant Lucano on Victoria Street is pretty decent as well. As is the Indian, Dil Se, on Bridge Street.

I would have accepted the Point of Ardnamurchan for maximum points :ninja:

But as it's late and I'm feeling generous, points all round for everybody :508:

We stay at North Light Apartments when on Orkney. Just around the corner from Skippers. Love spending time on Orkney as the people are brilliant and the scenery mind blowing.

It was a decent view yesterday, but waited until this morning to take the photo. Makes a bit tougher though

Did you receive a visitation from an angel, or is that a reflection of your flash in the window? So to speak.
