What an irritating little phrase that appears to have crept into common usage in the past year or so!

Csaba Laszlo has never heard of it.

I hate business / management speak.

I remember some moronic bint bank training burd come out with "don't ever assume, it makes an ass out of U and ME".

I asked her if that meant that the custom of learning from ones own experience to predict the most efficient way of doing things was in fact flawed and we should never anticipate anything at any time in case we're wrong.

She said "no but we still shouldn't assume things".

Some people are just too stupid to bother speaking to. :smiliz23:

I think we should be looking for synergies going forward and not be afraid to adopt a blue sky strategy in doing so. Additionally we should be reviewing the metrics regularly to ensure that we are getting full value-add.

I'll touch base with you on that later. Right now I need to check out some best practice strategies so I can work out an exit strategy from this thread and hit the ground running with my core competencies.

So what I don't get is why do so many people in business and management use it all the time? Why does bull****ting actually work?

"Downsizing" = sacking a bunch of people and ruining their Christmas

"Efficiency savings" or "modernisation" = the same

"Flexible markets" = let's make it ridiculously easy to sack people and replace them with machines

In 2003, New Zealand launched a new All Blacks rugby jersey. According to the marketing blurb, it came in three layers. An 'active layer' which offered "body empowerment" (wouldn't Viagra do the same thing though?), a 'uniform layer' which offered "compression of skin receptors, optimising muscular control", and an under-jersey which "worked in harmony with the other layers". That's a relief: can't have all those layers arguing with each other, can we?

Their Adidas socks "compressed the calf muscles to reduce vibration and oscillation" (providing a clear advantage over opponents who were obviously oscillating away wildly); and their shorts were a "polyester twill fabrication giving moisture management technology". Presumably this dealt with the problem of all their players wetting themselves while listening to this guff.

I like the plasmic nature of your data modelling...nice.

Geoff Kilpatrick

Let's think out of the box and conceptualise a holistic view of what new informatics we can envisage.

Lets take a cognitive shower and develop some blue sky thinking to develop value add going forward

I once paid a fortune for one of those...I think.

"Good idea, but let's park it offline for now....."

A previous manager of mine was infamous for this sort of gibberish.

It's normally used when people don't know enough about what the subject is to form a reasoned discussion, or as the old adage goes....

"If you can't dazzle them with facts, baffle them with bull***t"

The 'in future' and 'from now on' campaign starts here!!

Some powerful results from the raw data received but we should look at setting some KRA's so we can micro-manage this issue properly.

Do people still run ideas up a flag pole?

Once they pick off all the low hanging fruit and get all their ducks in a row, yes.

My tutor refers to brainstorms as "Rhizomatic thought showers".

I tend to refer to him as a tool.

I find it incredibly ironic that Acey admits to getting irritated :santa1:

I don't think you have a particularly good grasp of what "irony" is.

I am pleased to see that these issues are being addressed and taken forward at this point in time.

That is pretty tame compared to some examples but I certainly agree that anyone who talks this kind of trash should die a slow and painful death.

On a similar theme, there are many irritating little posters on here. :peepwall:

My current list of most hated business phrases include...

* Roadmap - aka plan

* Marketing collateral - aka brochures

* Terms of Reference - aka bloated/nonsensical project objectives document that is never referred to again

* Balanced scorecard - aka personal objectives

* Annual Operating Plan - aka budget

I think it's more that if decisions are primarily based on assumptions rather than facts then they have a higher probability of being wrong. :santa2:
