Cantona

Blithering idiot. (on SKy 1)

Good footballer mind you.

But full of guff and happy to spout it to anyone who will listen.

Thinks everything he says is profound.

Sounds like a man with a head injury.

Eric Cantona is Eric Cantona and can therefore say whatever the **** he wants in my book!

Hero. If he wasnt so eccentric he wouldnt quite be so much a hero

To call that man a hero is an understatement.

True legend in every possible way.

I agree, he's always been a hero of mine.

Some of the football he played at Man U was amazing.

What a talent.

Tosser.

No need to be jealous.

Just sit back, and enjoy the way he plays football.

You won't regret it.

The fact that he actually kung fu kicked a fan is enough for me to like him.

Legend.

Fair enough if it was a scouser or something but it was a Palace fan FFS.

I mean, come on, how gay is that ?

You make a good point.

On the other hand if he had kung fu kicked a Millwall fan ....

famillfanGTYbig.jpg

Found this story whilst looking for a pic of a Millwall fan.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/merseyside/4086195.stm

James Harrison, a Liverpool fan, makes Cantona look a bit gay. Was in the Millwall end during a game and punched a fan in the face whilst shouting 'Liverpool'.

Now you have to be mentally mental to do that. He seemingly was chased and battered. Surprising that. :)

Tarred and feathered me thinks.

He'd fit in well with a lot of posters here, who also think everything they say is profound.

****in awesome!

In my opinion the ONLY true modern day "legend". Yes, there have been plenty other world class players since his his hay day, your Ronaldo's, Ronaldinhio's, Henry's and such like....... but for me a legend is not judged PURELY on footballing ability. True legends are remembered for being a wonder to watch, but also for the way they conduct themselves, their attitude and the way the handle themselves. Things like the kung fu kick are what make the Cantona legend something that very very very few folk can compete with.

Henry - truly amazing footballer.

Cantona - true footballing legend.

Would have to class Zidane in a similar way as well. Once again, sublime footballer, complete nutjob!

Cantona is a true football Legend, the best bit being he only cost Man Utd ?1m, surely the best buy in football ever?

He was a tremendous player, wonderful to watch with all the skills/arrogance/nastiness/good habits he brought. I remember reading how much the United players were in awe of him. He scored some absolutely fabulous goals for United.

But he wasn't quite good enough to be considered in the highest level groups of footballers. Didn't have the pace required and didn't do it in the European Cup or World Cup.

Perhaps.... although I dont think Zidane had the same presence or arrogance as Cantona did. Hell, even the way the boy wore his collare spoke a thousand words about the way he was!!

Cantona was a very "in yer face" player - Zidane wasnt really like that (well except for that one occasion where he took that phrase very literally lol)

Speaks honestly and passionately about football and a club he served for 5/6 years.

Lots of respect for him.

If he's a bit mad then fair play to him : )

He is quality.

In contrast the guy on the right with the black leather jacket looks like he is used to a bit of violence.

He isn't bothered in the slightest !!. :hae36:

His cup final winning goal, going backwards against liverpool was unbelievable. Oooh Ahh.

Watched that goal in Simpsons the day after my wee fella was born. memories are made of this:).

The goal against Sunderland was sublime and then just to stand there as if to say" I do this for fun".

His interview before the man u game last night was pretty weird as well.

He finished by saying about man united "i will hold this club in my heart till my dying breath(or something along those lines)"

The interviewer then asks-"so do you miss it"

Cantona just responds-"no"

Slightly contradictory Eric.

Wonderful player. True legend. Some truely wonderful goals.

And ok, he kicked some fan. Maybe not the best thing he ever did. But what did the guy say to provoke him?

Tbh I'd rather get kicked in the chest than be spat on (like that Diouf did to a fan vs Celtic one year).

However he feels about this club, is more than mutual for the fans.

That man will be idolised for as long as there are United fans in this world.

Seem to remember Keane saying in his autobiography that off-camera Cantona was just an ordinary bloke who liked a beer with his team mates, but as soon as he was on camera he put on the surly, enigmatic act for a laugh!
