Wondering if anyone can throw any light on this wee problem...

I recently had to re-install drivers for the Realtek High Definition Sound Manager (had noticed loss of sound after using Windows XP cd to repair a current Windows installation). The driver re-install restored my sound successfully, but when I try to use software (audacity in this case) that I have to record sounds, it doesn't work - and on the interface, a flat line appears instead of the usual pattern of sound waves.

I had a similair problem ages ago, although I'm not sure how it came about at that time - but some kind soul on here had sorted it by instructing me to go to control panel > sounds and audio devices > audio and hit the 'volume' button in the sound recording section.. Or at least that's how I think it was sorted! Tried the same again, recording volume slider is pushed up as shown in picture - no luck this time though... Anyone have any ideas?!

Please ignore. Sorted through opening & tinkering with Realtek HD Sound Manager settings in control panel.
