Optimus Prime
A busy night across Europe tonight with the highlight being the Europa Cup play off semi final 2nd legs in Holland for the final Europa spot. Feyenoord take on NAC in Rotterdam looking to overturn a 3-2 deficit while Utrecht and Groningen are level at 3-3. Elsewhere the Danish Cup final will give Aalborg the opportunity to book their place if they defeat FC Copenhagen. However a Copenhagen win will open up 4th place in the league for a Europa spot. In Austria Austria Vienna will secure their spot if they beat Ried and Sturm Graz fail to beat Red Bull Salzburg. In Serbia Red Star will claim their place if OFK Belgrade fail to beat Javor. Optimus Prime
Europa Update 23/05/09 A huge afternoon across Europe today in the race for Europa League places the highlight being the dramatic conclusion to the Bundesliga: Germany An incredibly tight finish to the Bundesliga sees 3 teams still with a shout of taking the title. In terms of the Europa League one of Bayern Munich, Hertha Berlin or Stuttgart will miss out on Champions League qualification and enter the Europa League in 4th place. The second spot (5th place) is a straight fight between Borussia Dortmund and Hamburg. Borussia are in pole position on goal difference and a win away to Borrussia Munchengladbach will secure their place. However if Hamburg better their result away to Eintracht Frankfurt they qualify. Spain La Liga is also extremely tight with two games to go. Any two from Seville, Malaga, Villareal, Deportivo, Atletico Madrid and Valencia will enter the Europa League. France Two games remaining in Ligue 1. PSG can secure no worse than a Europa League spot with a point away to Valenciennes, however if they better Lyons result at home to Caen they are still in with a chance of securing the final Champions League spot. A win for Toulouse away to Nice will confirm their Europa spot if Lille fail to beat Le Harve. Belgium Cup final day. If Mechelen beat Gent they secure a Europa spot. However if Gent (already qualified through the league) win the cup then Zulte Wagergem in 5th place will qualify. Portugal All settled in terms of who qualifies but a Braga win coupled with a Nacional defeat will see them enter the Europa League in the play off round rather than round 3. Czech Rep Sparta Prague, Slovan Liberec and Mlad Boleslav are all fighting it out for the the final Champions League spot with the other two most likely to enter the Europa ahead of the chasing pack. Poland Legia Warsaw and Wisla Krakow are fighting it out for the title with two games to go. A Wislaw win today and a Legia defeat will put Legia into the Europa. Israel A point today for Maccabi Haifa will secure them the Israeli title and confirm Hapoel Tel Aviv, Maccabi Netyana and Yehuda Tel Aviv?s entry into the Europa League. Bosnia A win for Sloboda Tuzla in their final game will secure a Europa spot ahead of NK Sarajevo. However NK will qualify if Slboda win the Bosnian Cup Final (they lead 2-0 from the first leg). Albania Final day in the Albanian league, KF Tirana and Vladzia Shkoder go head to head for the title. Tirana have a point advantage and need only a draw to secure the league and see Vlazia into the Europa.

Groot
What happens if we are drawn against Kaunas at some point during the tournament? not sure, as UBIG are our owners and not directly Vlad and I'm not sure what the ownership deal is with Kaunas if he owns them or is just sponsor like what Abramovich does for CSKA Moscow
Only a Game
What happens if we are drawn against Kaunas at some point during the tournament? Havent Kaunus resigned from the Lithuanian FA ? I'm pretty sure that would exclude them from participation. MTZ Ripo are also in the tournament, but I think on paper there is enough to satisfy UEFA's rules that we are not owned by the same entity (even though we definetly are in reality) In either case, if it came to the crunch the team with the higher co-efficient would remain in the tournament, and thats us in both cases, and the lower team would be excluded. Optimus Prime
Europa Update 24/05/09 Another hectic day across the continent in the race for the Europa League. The low down is as follows: Scotland Dundee Utd require a point against Rangers to secure the final Europa slot. A defeat coupled with an Aberdeen win against Hibs will see Aberdeen leapfrog Dundee Utd into the final slot. England Although both Everton and Aston Villa have secured their places the top seeded English team will automatically enter the Europa League group stage. This place is for the FA Cup Winners or 5th place if the cup winners have qualified for the Champions League. A Everton win today will secure 5th place and the automatic group place regardless of what happens in the cup final as Chelsea will be participating in next season Champions League. However a draw or defeat for Everton will allow Aston Villa the chance to claim 5th place if they beat Newcastle. If this happens and Everton lose the cup final Aston Villa would enter the group stage as England?s top seeds. Elsewhere the final Europa spot is a straight fight between Fulham and Tottenham. Fulham have a two point advantage and a win will secure slot however a draw or a defeat and a Tottenham win will see Spurs take the final spot. Italy A win for Fiorentina away to Lecce will ensure their Champions League place and confirm Genoa in the Europa League. Roma can confirm the second Europa place if they win away to AC Milan and Palermo draw or lose to Atalanta. Denmark Odense will be confirmed in the Europa League if FC Copenhagen win. Bronby will also enter the Europa if they fail to at least equal Copenhagens result. This scenario would win the title and double for Copenhagen and also confirm Aalborg in the Europa as Danish Cup runners up. Greece The penultimate round of matches in the Greek play off should ensure PAOK and Larisa in the Europa this afternoon. AEK Athens will also enter the Europa if they fail to win and Panathinakos beat PAOK. Switzerland An FC Zurich win or draw will confirm Young Boys Bern in the Europa League. A FC Zurich win and a Basel defeat will also see Zurich enter the Champions League and Basel the Europa. Austria Cup Final day in Austria. Austria Vienna take on second division Admira Wacker. The winners will go directly into the Europa 3rd qualifying round. Croatia NK Rijeka and Slaven Koprivnica are already secured Europa slots. However a Rikeka win will secure 3rd place and a slot in the 2nd qualifying round. Turkey All extremely tight in Turkey with all the European places undecided with two rounds of matches remaining. Any three of Besiktas, Galatasaray, Fenerbache, Sivasspor, Trabsonspor and Bursaspor will be in the Europa. Unlikely to be decided until the final day. I think they have stepped down a division OaG rather than resign totally. It is similar to here, where the SPL is run by the SPL (strangely enough !!) and the rest of the divisions are run by the SFL I think. There the lower leagues are run by a different organisation, but if Kaunas had secured a European place before stepping down I would think they would still have a right to compete unless the Lithuanian FA decides to exclude them. Robbo27_22
Hope we don't get a toughie in the qualifier - group stages would be good but also hope it doesn't detract from domestic business.
