Ready golf for stroke play, but match play you'll lose the hole if you play out of turn without partner giving the thumbs up first.

Not correct.

You should tell him that he has played out of turn and he has to play the shot again.

I think, if you don't you've accepted it with no penalty.

In match play, there's no penalty for playing out of turn, but the opponent has the option to cancel the stroke and have the player play again in their turn, according to the R&A and the USGA. The opponent can decide whether to cancel the stroke based on the situation, potentially if the out-of-turn shot was good or bad.

addition:
A mate caused a stooshie last year with this.
I think the opponent putted out.
He told the guy that he lost the hole, the opponent wasn't clued up and accepted it.
Mate thinks he knows the rules inside out, he bloody doesn't, always pointing out things to him.

Thanks for the correction. To be honest, I use the R&A Rules app anytime I need to check something during a match anyway

Was it the current North Korean leader who shot 18? This could  make a classic match if so 🤣

They are showing off plenty skill. Far better than watching the target golf we see for most events. Its great watching where sometimes bogey is a great score. Nice also seeing players punished for errant shots.

Dread to think what I'd score on that course. I'd likely NR after 4 holes and walk off in a huff.

That target golf you reference on courses over 7k yards long, I can only dream of having that ability. Birdies and eagles are extremely skillful on your "Target Golf".

USGA are using the irrigation system at Oakmont to monkey with the players heids. Landing areas of the tees are being watered, no run out. Other landing areas are being dried out on sloping fairways where the 9" rough awaits. Mother nature is not in charge at Oakmont, which is very disappointing.

I'd be off 32 and I'm pretty sure I still wouldn't break 100 net.

I never said target golf wasnt skillful. However we see every other week tournaments being won with 20 under par. Lets see their skill in a different way where a birdie means much more. And being able to make par is great aswell.

Can someone please tell Paul McGinley to shut the **** up. He adds nothing to what is on screen.

No idea why US coverage so isn't on showing players on  practice drive area when there are others on the course.

Come on Bob

Great birdie.

If he can par the last he will put lots of pressure on the others.

This is getting interesting for Robert! C'mon son.

There was an interview a few days ago with Scheffler.   They asked him how he thought his chances were about winning .  The usual questions.   In the background zoomed out but you could make out it was Bobby Mac walking past .   I thought he's winning this.    Ironic asking Scheffler at the time he's walking past in the background.

Anything can happen.   Great stuff.

Did what was required. Great chance of at least a play off unless someone does something pretty special.

I think Bob had to birdie the last to put more pressure on Spaun, Victor helping with the line too, but to finish birdie birdie is a great way to win.
Lots of moans about the course but its been brilliant really.

Unbelievable, especially after starting 5x5 out in 40 on Sunday and winning the US Open has never been done (popped up on screen when he was on the 17th) just wild wild day of golf

I enjoyed it. Good to see pars being rewarded like birdies and bogeys becoming good scores at times.

The rough and bunkers proved to be penal. I still believe finding a divot on a fairway deserves relief.

Whilst not the win Bob hoped for, it's guaranteed him entry next year, guaranteed him the Masters next year along with a load of world ranking and Ryder Cup points. Combine that with $2m odd and it's a fair weekends work.

Can't argue that 2 birdies on last 2 holes didn't deserve the win. That rain break came at the perfect time for Spain.

As much as it is harsh finding a divot, a rule like that in golf would be totally abused.

There would be chancers but those who've played the game can tell what is a legitimate divot.

There'll be plenty who have played the game also chancing it. The slightest scraping of turf will be deemed a "divot". Just another avenue for cheating in a sport where cheating is already rife.

It's just bad luck, we can't eliminate bad luck from the game.

Down to the playing partners to back or reject the call. R&A would give clear guidance on what qualifies as a divot.

Burns hit to 2 feet from a divot. It isn't impossible even if it seems unfair.

A bit like hitting the flag stick - too good a shot can end up in a penalty area! But such is life.

Can hit a perfectly good shot down the middle and take a horrific kick and land behind a tree or you can land in a footprint in a bunker. Such is golf.

What if a duff shot and the ball rolls back down into your own divot? Would be farce if you got relief for that

Aye but the flagstick and tree aren't there because some lazy dick in an earlier group failed to follow course etiquette.
