Another two triple bogeys yesterday.

Another 82 (11.6). 0.3 cut

Interested to see if PCC (CSS replacement) kicks in as scoring was good. That will cost me .125.

Highest now 13.8, lowest 8.6.

Another chance missed though yesterday.

I'm sure the club has been struggling lately.

I played in early 90s, keep  meaning  to play it again. I go up there for weekend a few times a year. I've no memories of the course whatsoever though.

The upkeep of the clubhouse may suggest so, paint flaking off everywhere and looking really run down.

As for the course, interesting wee track but the greens were atrocious. Some had barely any grass and you were putting through dirt and sand. It wasn't them all but mostly the holes at the foot of the hills, so can only assume they've been really impacted by the wet winter.

Was going to mention greens. Took the dog a walk up by it. The green furthest from the clubhouse had no grass at all.

Maybe around about the 7th? Horrendous.

Managed my first game in 6 months yesterday on Gullane No. 2 - The course was in fantastic condition and the greens were amazing - true and fast!

played to 9 over so wasn't that upset - had 2 birdies but was 7 over from 12 through 14 playing 4 bunker shots in those 3 holes. Hit a couple of cracking chips and pitches (which has been the worst part of my game for the last 4 or 5 years) so all the practicing in the back garden must have paid off!  Hit a 60 degree to inside a foot as well and it was just fun! .. 2 drives over 300 as well so all in all really pleased with the game.

Will need to get some more organised ASAP.

Update.

No adjustment to PCC, totally surprised.

Pretty sure css would have dropped a shot with these scores.

Done a wee bit trawling on Web to see how PCC is calculated not getting anything.

Seen a SGU thing where a club official says "it's less severe than the css was"

Really hope it rains in Edinburgh soon. Forecast said heavy rain for an hour yesterday but didn't come to much and there's a similar forecast for tomorrow evening.

My course is in need of a good soaking. The run on the fairways is great but still some firm patchy bits that would've recovered by now had there been some rain. Some of the greens are  really firm so have been dusting off the high fade.

My course is the same. A lot of bare patches that just aren't getting the chance.

Tough for greenkeepers just now. We had a horrendously wet winter coupled with a huge surge in golf being played. Courses haven't had time to recover and most courses are likely seeing the negative effects of that.

The recent frost hasn't helped either.

We had 21 of 75 break handicap on Sunday there. With some seriously breaking handicap.

Had there been CSS I reckon it would have been 2 under SSS. Yet no adjustments. Which I'm not complaining about at all.

Your % is high, a lot higher than ours. Finding that a bit strange.

Will we be happy when we get soaked to the skin and submit a crap score? :omg:

Once this season has ran its course, the handicap indexes will begin to be reflective for the bulk of regular players. The 2018 and 2019 scores currently contributing to the handicaps will drop off and more recent scores will show prominence. 👍

Hi Tommy

As far as I can ascertain it is a daily calculation based on a minimum of 8 scores to enable a calculation. There is apparently a system built in to reflect course conditions on the day. Apart from that in the words of Toyah "Its a mystery"😳

Morning Liam,

Under the old system the CSS could only be a maximum of 1 under the SSS. TBF to it you could calculate the CSS with a pen and paper and some time on your hands.

The new system you need to be an IT specialist, so its down to the system to calculate. I would have more confidence if the SGU App wasn't riddled with mistakes.WE just have to hope they have got it right.🤒

Ah did it? I thought it was 2.

I've noticed that my score from yesterday is still pending, SGU haven't refreshed handicaps as they usually do every night.

Yes that's the plan, but its the SGU so I wouldn't rely on anything they do.

They have even landed us with McKinley:whistling:

Think I have found a software error when doing 9 holes.

18 holes 67.8 par 70

Front 9 33.6 par 34

My mate had 39 on front 9 sweep

His calculation shows as

78 -67.8 ×113/121

This has effectively given him a 39 for the harder back 9 with 2 strokes more on the par. And given him an extra .5 off his total,

Which he isn't complaining.

Was looking to purchase an Odyssey triple track, 2 ball mallet putter. Not overly bothered about buying brand new, so was wondering if any one knew where to buy 2nd hand for this type of club?

cheers

E bay ?

both golf clubs for cash and golf bidder are good suggestions.

Usually find golfbidder a bit on the expensive side.

Good luck

I signed up for the Fife golf pass today.

Will be getting on some after work golf done . Maybe not the best courses in the area but will let me hit balls pretty often.

Anyone else got one?

I looked at it a few years ago as a second membership but thought the Fairmont offer was better value. I think a couple of those courses were getting some help from St Andrews Links Trust to improve the conditions but not sure if it's still ongoing.

I do think that there is a lot of work to be done on some of the courses, some look really nice though, like Kinghorn!.. But Its basically so that I can just play golf after work monday-friday as its an Hour to my own course (without rush hour) so this seemed like a good idea.

Glenrothes was one which was mentioned at the time of getting assistance. I've not played any of them but they'll fit in for what you're looking for for a twilight hit about. 👍

Don't think they've ever had any help from St Andrew's Trust. I know a lot of their greenkeepers and a few of the higher ups.

Just spoke to a guy who had a membership at Glenrothes. He confirmed the Links Trust helped out about four years ago. It seemed to be a combination of using their machinery and manpower to improve the course condition.

It's so dry that any bit of rain will cause flooding. We got caught in it last Tuesday and the course was covered in standing water.

7 months without swinging a club.  7 holes practice.  Straight into a medal.  80 less 7 with a good few shots frittered around the greens.

As someone at the club said though,  when you're not played,  you're not practicing bad habits.  The trick is to keep them from returning.

Had not played for a few months, the 1st and 2nd holes at carrick-knowe hit the longest straightest drives , could not believe it, sometimes a break helps.

Was Alexander G Watson's round a steady one when you expand his card or were there any rogue 8s or 9s in there to show it could have been lower?

John Collins Snr must have thought he had that in the bag. 😂

I am sure they will be glad to be rid of him from Div 3

Keep in mind that playing off 54 includes the 95% adjustment for a stroke play playing handicap! 😂

Found the scorecard. Only one 7. Four pars but mainly 5s and 6s. Will be interesting to see if the handicap applied is an error or what was submitted to be given one so high.

HDID still displaying a 54 handicap so assuming it may require a manual adjustment as the algorithm is busted! 😂

The Gorgie

Personally think the handicap system is stupid. I don't play in medals so don't hand in cards to get a handicap, just play for fun with my mates. I have an unofficial handicap of 20 from the app I use but I really do think it's a lot of shite. If I shoot a 94 then to me it's 94, i don't care what my net score is, i shouldn't be rewarded for being pretty shite at the game.

I think it's a fairer way than the previous system but some tweaks need to be applied.

There will be instances where players do not take part in stroke play events which would contribute to more accurate handicap adjustments. However these players actively participate in scrambles and matchplay comps with their inflated handicaps. A return of a minimum of three scores should be required for the handicap to remain 'active' to allow participation in these events. General play events are recognised as qualifying scores therefore there should be no issues in submitting these for the players who want to take part in competitive play.

It's good that you get out and can enjoy your bounce games. The new system will have no bearing on you but keep in mind if you look to play away at some courses, there's a small chance you may be asked to produce a handicap certificate. It seems silly but I have seen it mentioned on some booking conditions.

👍

Think it might take a few months for handicaps to settle in the new system. Not every player will have a recent set of 20 cards.
Been a nightmare for me as a new member due to my club not being able to correctly enter my scores on the system. It did mean a win at the weekends medal though so not complaining too much.
Got cut by 5 shots the next day 😂

Here's how it works for anyone with less than 20. Which is why it'll wildly fluctuate.

3 scores: lowest score -2

4 scores: lowest score -1

5 scores: lowest score

6 scores: average of lowest 2 scores -1

7 to 8 scores: average of lowest 2 scores

9 to 11 scores: average of lowest 3 scores

12 to 14 scores: average of lowest 4 scores

15 to 16 scores: average of lowest 5 scores

17 to 18 scores: average of lowest 6 scores

19 scores: average of lowest 7 scores

20 scores: average of lowest 8 scores

The handicapping system makes golf the only sport where an 18 year old male can have a fair game against a 65 year old woman.

It's a work of genius and should be appreciated for what it is. It makes the game even and anything can happen..

If it was football, HMFC might get a 5 goal handicap if we were to play Barcelona.  We would still get humped....  but it would make it a lot closer.
