Flight Compensations

A couple of weeks ago me and a friend were due to go down to the Arsenal Newcastle FA cup game. Got tickets flgiths etc.. ready to fly from edinburgh after checking in when the fire alarm went off. the whole airport was evacuated for over an hour. As people were let back in a mad rush followed and we quickly got in. However the boards showed our flight was delayed 45 mins. We thought okay should be okay but the time was now 10.30 15 mins til it should leave. We were in a huge queue o go through securtiy when it came up saying flight closed. we asked a steward lady and explained our situation she said it was all okay get back in line and only skip the queue if there was a call for the flight. 10 mins later get through the security to find the flight has left with us not on it and there being no calls for our names or that flight.

We have written away to airfrance expaling but just wanted to check if anyone has had any similar situations were its not your fault for missing flights and claiming back the full costs plus expenses? And if so how did you go about it and how long it took.

cheers

You probably wont get anywhere with Air France as technically it wasn't their fault. This might be one to take up with the airport authority (BAA)

BAA won't pay up as they were reacting to a fire/security alert and were simply putting passengers safety to the fore.

Air France won't pay up as the incident wasn't of their making.

I think you're screwed.

Would he not have some grounds with Air France, due to them being checked in but not being called for

Airlines are under no obligation to make boarding announcements. It's the passenger's responsibility to get to the gate on time, and whether announcements are made or not is irrelevant.

Fair enough

Just seemed such common practice nowadays that i assumed that all airlines would do at least one last request for anyone checked in

in that case he is screwed. Should really have ensured that he got to skip the queue at security

If you don't get anywhere write to the other carriers and say you have lost faith in the good will of Air France. See if they would be willing to offer you something to get you as a customer.

It's great to retain a customer.

It's even better to steal one from your competitors!

well we tried to skip the queue and when it came up on the screen "gate closed" we **** ourself. so asked the woman with the radio and she said its all okay just things messed up due to the fire alarm. So after being told by airport staff and not being called and battling with 500 other passangers we were up **** creek and nothing we could do about it. Hopefulyl they will pay out as 100 quid each for flights and a 90 quid ticket for the game is nothing to them as alot to some young lads. But as you say- cant see it happening! *****!!
