Mr X
In response to the 'Great Cover Versions' thread that was on here last week. Here's a few to kick us off: Hear'Say - Bridge Over Troubled Water M People - Itchycoo Park Suggs - I'm Only Sleeping Oasis - Street Fighting Man Stereophonics - I Wanna Be Your Dog British Whale - This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us However, I've found one that tops them all. Perhaps the worst cover version of all time. Missing the point completely and having no empathy whatsoever with the original. Can't do the embedding thing so I'll put in a link. You will watch this in complete disgust, but like a car crash, you'll be unable to pull yourself away. Good people of Kickback, I give you................................... At the time I thought it was OK too. I was only 13 at the time and thought it was tres cool and trippy. I actually heard this not long ago, at the time I thought it was a pretty decent cover and I haven't changed my mind, I still think they manage to pull off what a number of bands have tried and failed miserably at and that is to do a decent cover of a Beatles song. Dear Prudence - Siouxsie & The Banshees We Can Work It Out - Stevie Wonder Day Tripper - Otis Redding Happiness Is A Warm Gun - The Breeders I Want You (She's So Heavy) - Booker T & The MG's Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey - Kristin Hersh I Wanna Hold Your hand - Sparks I would humbly suggest that these are marginally better than bloody Candy Flip. I P Knightley
I have to return to that Celine Dion one for a month. I don't know which makes it worse: (a) that I liked the original so any cover would have to be pretty special; ( women covering blokes' songs is rarely right - especially where they change "she" to "he". Interesting aside - in the other thread you may remember us all agreeing that one of the top 5 had to be Kate Bush's version of Rocket Man: well Kate never tampered with the lyric, bless her. Or © I really didn't want to hear Celine Dion singing about herself coming... I'm not sure that I'll sleep well tonight.

Drylaw Hearts
Pick any UB40 song and that has a fair chance of being a bad cover version. Falling in Love is probably the worst. Need to clean your ears out mate!! Wonder's "We Can Work It Out" is one of the best Beatles covers I've heard. The Brow
Aye it was McFly. Its horrible. I used to work in HMV so I have heard TONS of this type of fecking guff. May I suggest "the Enemy - these towns" which is a thievery/cover/reworking/update/whatever lets them sleep at night.... of the Jam's classic - "thats entertainment". AND its pish but on the radio all the time cos Jo "i love every band and song every" Whiley thinks its ace. Anyone ever heard Lee Ryan (noofter from blue that fancied dolphins) sing "best of you" by the foo fighters? Admittedly the original isnt the best but his cover is absolutely hilarious. Think I heard it on radio 1 about 3 years ago. Funniest thing i have ever heard on the radio. Lets Dance by Craig David - needs shot in the massive chin by Bowie. Under the bridge - All Saints Smooth Criminal - Alien Ant Farm Something inside so strong - Rik Waller Take on me - A1 Cant Get Blue Monday out of my head.....utter *****. Dunno who made the remix.
