chester copperpot
right cheers. may try swanning along at 5 and see what they say to it. Cheque has to be paid in before 3.30 for it to be classed the first working day. A cheque can take up to 6 working days to clear for withdrawel and interest purposes, but can be recalled at any time. So all in all, a cheque is never cleared. If you're a good customer or know someone at the branch, they may allow you withdraw some funds against it before its cleared, if you ask them nicely. jambovambo
not if its a business account going to a normal account as i found out Hah - they dinnae trust businesses, eh ? See Watchdog last night ? It seems you can glibly sign a cheque "Mickey Mouse" and they will still cash it (because they haven't noticed). The woman from the banking association said "ah yes but we have a lot of other controls in place ..." - disnae matter once the money is out of the account of someone who doesn't check their statements!! coppercrutch
The rules will be changing int he future to allow much faster clearing of cheques. But as of just now as has been stated above this is simply a reason for lowering the interest they charge you. In Sweden they get 24 hours to clear a cheque. If it doesn't clear THEY MUST PAY YOU a fee as an apology for their delay. We are so behind in this country. It really is quite pathetic.
