am going to take mrs f away for a couple o days in march, any ideas of where to stay (scotland)

It depends what you like doing and what you're interested in, but if you're after somewhere pretty quiet with nice surroundings and some very nice scenery nearby you could do a great deal worse than:

http://www.trigonyhotel.co.uk/

It's a family-owned country hotel a mile or so south of Thornhill in Dumfries & Galloway. There's a lot good about the place, nice and comfortable rooms, friendly welcome, nice gardens and surroundings, etc., but what really makes it stand out is the quality of the food. The cooking there is absolutely superb: really well cooked, good portions, no fancy presentation and not tarted-up or mucked about with, and made with produce from their kitchen garden or sourced locally. Good and interesting wine list too.

Dinner,Bed & Breakfast costs from ?70-?95 a head - not really cheap, but definitely worth it once in a while.

My girlfriend and I have been there twice and have loved it. If you like walking, sightseeing, and the countryside, etc., there's plenty to do and see around there. It's quite an "undiscovered" area in many ways, as most folk just hammer it up or down the A74 / M74, but much of it is really beautiful.

Nae bother. I've recommended it to loads of folk (and I've no connections at all with the owners... unfortunately!) and anyone that has been has really enjoyed it.

Bonnie Prince Charlie

Oban is good. If you go by train the journey is superb and you can get the ferry over to Mull etc. Also a good few pubs etc. Take a brolly though.
