Bigsmak
Don't live there but have mates that do.. Tranent's like 3 different towns these days. 1 - the old part, built for the mine. 2 - the slightly newer part built when the boom started in the 90s 3 - The brand new part near Elphionstone - New school, nicer houses not a bad place to be. Mates love it here with their 2 year old boy. Lots of young family's near by. Nice place to be.
JamboRossi79
I've been instructed to ask about the flat in Porty. Any details? Well if we go for the house we are looking at then we'll be looking to rent out our current place, this is my first choice rather than sell it. I can keep you informed of developments if you like. coppercrutch
I will resist the urge to mention owning 2 depreciating assets Oh **** I just did !! Anyway JamboRossi depending what developer you are looking at, and how it has sold so far, you could be going in and offering 20-30% under their asking price - easy. You may not get it of course but you have to try. Some of these developers are desperate with a capital D. Rape them up the arse. They deserve it. I work in the building trade and houses aint selling just now. A few sites have been made water tight and the men laid off cos they cant sell them. Its a buyers market just now so exploit it. belly
Been looking in various including West Windygoul and Forthview I would say you can't go wrong with those areas, have you also considered the Carlaverock area. That was the newer area of Tranent when I was growing up in the late 70's early 80's. Also the Bankpark area was also built around that time. Very quiet, co-op round the corner and a bigger one 5mins away. Also new school 5min walk away and your once again 5mins from bypass. We're in the Tulloch Homes as we found them the best value for money. Right now you could get a good deal from them as I have heard from the site agent. Happy House Hunting! Sconnie
Not specifcially mate no. One house we really liked was in Robertson Drive and another was in Forthview. I'm at Robertson Drive! Where is the house about? My mate used to live at number 1, I'm not sure if it's still up for sale. It's not a bad place to live tbh, alot of kids running about and it's a bloody trek to Tynecastle, especially on a bus.

JamboSean
My Mum lives at the very beginning in the new flats, which are really nice. The newish houses at the far end of Tranent are lovely. Prices are dropping constantly in that area too, as my Mum's been looking to get one. Don't ask me for names of streets or that though.
JamboRossi79
Musselburgh's ok, what part are you looking to buy in? Looking around the Delta/Galt area, seems ok from what I have seen. Close to my golf course too.
jack D and coke
Looking around the Delta/Galt area, seems ok from what I have seen. Close to my golf course too. The far end near the drift that leads to the farmshop is the better end. Or the top side nearer the railway station. Other than that i would be careful about where i was buying. Dont get me wrong the wimpey's is full of good people, i spent a lot of my youth up there and know plenty folk who live there and my gran lived in Delta Gardens but i have to tell you there's some demicks in amongst it. Saying that my best mate lives there and he's never had any bother but like i say he's along the far end at Galt Crescent i think it is. You get good value on the houses though that is definately a plus.

You should definately have a look at Haddington. A bit further out the way than Musselburgh obviously but a really nice town with only a couple of dodgy parts. But I wouldn't bother if you don't drive to games. Trying to get to Tynecastle from Haddington is a bit if a bitch.
