The date is very strategic too, think about the amount of foreign visitors here for the fringe, they will lap a shite game like this up.

They know what they are doing. Loads of tourists already in the City. I don't mind hospitality venues making a few quid on the back of it either. That industry has been shafted more often than not the past 6 years.

Vast majority of accommodation has been booked for August some time ago .

Scousers and Geordies may be somewhat shocked at prices

The transport aspects would be challenging but I'm sure the SRU would be very keen - and bear in mind the Olimpico in Rome hosts both of the top flight teams in Rome as well as the Six Nations rugby games. From the perspective of Newcastle, if they had to de-camp from St James's Park their options would be very limited. Assuming Sunderland was out of the question I suppose Leeds or Manchester would be the other possibilities but Elland Road is quite a bit smaller than St James's Park and Manchester is actually further away by train from Newcastle than Edinburgh.

 

As for this friendly match (and all these 'glamour friendlies' at Murrayfield), I'd genuinely be much more likely to go and watch a league 2 match between Stirling Albion and Elgin.

I went to that with my dad. game was a shocker as you say. I found out later that Man Utd. split their squad in half for that game and sent the other half to London for a game at the Emirates. 

 

Probably wouldn't have bothered if I'd known. tickets around £80 for remotely decent seats at that one, though they came down in price closer to the date..
