I remember we played Everton in a friendly in the early 90s and this wee Scouse radge got into School End. Absolutely off his ***s on something, and a big space round him. I was scared to even look at him. He was about five foot two.

Two pretty crap teams.

Why not ask Hearts and H1B5 and have 6 x 30 minute game's and double the gate

The geordies will be her en masse and I dare say there will be a few bitters up as well. I'm not sure they'll need much padding of the crowd.

And wait until folk see the ticket prices for the seats above £35.

They are usually awful as any player thats been at international comp sits it out,Liverpool played Napoli a few years ago with a reserve team and Man Utd did similar a couple year back v Rangers

Was at Liverpool v Napoli, as you say, hardly any names there. Not sure I’d do it again.

This looks only 10 days before the season starts so will likely be the first pre-season friendly for most of the World Cup players.

Obvious question here, why?

I think there's a world wide deal in place to play glamour friendlies across the world.

To promote a rival product on our doorstep.

Hope it’s pishing down, both teams send reserves up and the trains are cancelled.

£90 a pop for the East Stand.

Premier League tickets (subject to club) are cheaper than that. Only just mind.

Does that mattter in a friendly? I can see at least 34 plus players being used

2 mid table mediocre EPL teams going through the motions in a friendly, sounds great.

Newcastle will have just explained to their fans why they received a fine from UEFA for overspending and that's why they sold Anthony Gordon.

I think you'll find Gordon wanted to go. He's always wanted to play for Barca, hence the Spanish lessons.

What about the 115?

Who will you support then if it all comes tumbling down at the Emptihad?

I hope City go the same way of post Fergie Man U now Pep the Spit has gobbed in the City technical area for the last time.

Rules are rules. Newcastle broke them but like Chelsea, got credit for cooperating.

Were those rules brought in to stifle Newcastle's spending power?

Fair point

Aston Villa got the same punishment though more actually than Newcastle or Chelsea

Our own season will be one and a half weeks in by then. I don't have any spare cash to watch a couple of EPL clubs' millionaire footballers having a training session at  a rugby ground. **** them.

It's a rectangular piece of grass with goals at each end surrounded by seats.

Only in Scotland would precious chip carrying oiks  insist you can't play Association Football on it.

There was talks of this potentially being a test event for Newcastle home games while their stadium is being re-developed.

Yup, I was at the Liverpool vs Napoli game and it was really poor. 0-3 for Napoli from memory

Don’t think should be allowed! They should be promoting the two Edinburgh sides not pandering to the EPL nonsense.

The EPL fan boys will gladly pay a fortune to see the "stars" and then feel robbed when it's mostly fringe and youth players, with the first team squad maybe playing 10 minutes or so.

i remember that game.

Wee scouser just wandering about the School End and never stopped talking shite.

I think most people were just bemused by him rather than wanting to chin him.

Often wondered what happened to him.

Pretty much the squad which won the champions league two months earlier with the exceptions of Becker , Salah , Bobby and Mane 😂

Not for me due to previous such days, lacking atmosphere and high prices.

Good luck to both teams but one question, why?

Is this just a money making venture to line the pockets of the many business men/women, involved?

I don't want any any club not based here playing a non-Edinburgh based club in our town. We don't need EPL teams parking their tanks on our lawn.

Greed. Why?A

Sunderland have qualified for the Europa League but wandered around Tynecastle for a stroll pre season. This is a bit further on in their preparations though.

It all about building the EPL brand. Look at where EPL teams go to play pre-season friendlies. It’s as much about marketing than it is about preparing for the next season. Newcastle and Tottenham played a friendly in Melbourne two years ago about two and a half days after they played their last game of the season. Tottenham this year will play a game in New Zealand in July. Just a money grabbing exercise.

Will the real fans of both clubs bother to turn up for this, they are probably sick of playing each other anyway! It will be filled by armchair Scottish EPL fans who couldn't explain the rules of the game if you paid them to do so !

Money talks and eventually I can see EPL matches being played in other countries.

Most EPL clubs now have strong global fan bases and I think it's only a matter of time before one club caves in. The rest will follow

I think what Ticketmaster are charging might put a few off but both clubs have got big followings.

Yes a lot of Geordies will turn up as it's just an hour and a half up the road for them. I can't see there being many Evertonians but the lure of Edinburgh is strong so we might be surprised. It will still be mostly the armchair fraternity in attendance, I would put my money on that !

Yeah, hotel prices are wild here during festival. Much easier for Newcastle fans to travel up and down same day, coming from Liverpool you'd probs need/want overnight stay.
