But was it the only way we could get him to sign. We got the extra year, I’d paid off as we had an unbelievable season.

He clearly wanted to go, he clearly held all the cards. We had very little leverages. Entirely possible he said he’d sign with a release clause. We had nothing to lose at that time either. this does sadly seem plausible

If the release clause is 7 figure, fair play to Shankland and good luck. If it’s in the 6 figures, it rapidly gets more depressing the lower it goes. Waiting to see where this goes.

He's said our players would more than likely have offers from bigger and better than the OF. Shankland is probably an exception tbf. Nobody of note wanted him and the OF is probably his ceiling.
