They have just been robbed of the league, now tell them they are going to lose their best player.

I hope so, but the speed this is moving and the fact it was mentioned a few hours ago (and laughed at by me) and now the articles out. There doesn’t appear to be much resistance from our end, no bid rejected etc.

It makes no sense to me, the circumstances last summer were essentially, Shankland was holding out for a move to Rangers, he wasn't wanted. West Brom were interested, but he wanted to stay in Scotland.

Therefore, given we were the only show in town wanting him, I'm confused on why there would be any need to agree a release clause?

Sounds like lazy journalism. I'm sure Shanks would be interested in the move of course, but he's under a long term contract on very good money. Hearts entirely within their rights to tell Rangers to take a hike.

I don't want Shankland to leave and I hope this is all nonsense.

But if we were told last summer when we didn't know if he would sign at all that he would captain us to second place (and nearly win the league) scoring 20 goals and then leave for free, we would have taken that all day long. So maybe the club did sign off this release clause. Who knows.

We need a Shankland with unbelievable pace, until then, we'll keep Shankland.

48 hours?

There is something in this, unfortunately.

to be fair, the papers normally release the sports stories at half ten.

One saving grace if it happens is past history of Rangers is that don't know how to use signings like this.

If this was the usual Sun shit stirring, they'd not be mentioning 48 hours, they'd have no need. Sounds like this is already far down the line tbh.

Transfer window doesn't open until the 15th of June. As far as I am aware, that is not 48 hours time - so any approaches or 'signing' of a player, under contract, is tapping up

I don't like a deal that weakens us and strengthens them.

I hope we tell them he's not for sale.

You don’t know of it will weaken us and strengthen them. Nobody does. It depends entirely on what we spend the money on.

i doubt if any of our squad are not for sale.

Not specifically related to the sun article but if JTA tell us it’s time for him to go providing the buyer meets our valuation then he’ll surely be away?

That said, it would fly in the face of what TB said last summer that the OF wouldn’t be able to afford our players.

if we agree to sell him to rangers you have to assume we’d have a replacement lined up immediately.

Kyogo left Celtic for 10m at a similar age. Shanks is a better player and doesn’t rely on pace so has more years in the tank.

We know where the bidding starts.

Who knows how contracts are structured, but could it be the case that a free was agreed based on where the club finished the season and a goals target both which were met?

Let's hope we have a ready replacement because if we Braga goes  we'll be well short up front.

Read in the Manchester gazette that Haaland is rescinding his 9-year contract and signing for us within 48hrs.

You can sign a player any time you want, the transfer window is really a "registration" window.

What this same paper?

dont think it will be true, but Project back to last season, how desperate we were to keep him.  Maybe the logic was at worst we get one more season, and the likelihood is no one would take it up.  Which tbh did work.

if hate it, but it wouldn’t be completely without logic if you go back to that time

Yeah there’s a bit of my brain that is marginally concerned… not by the free bit, but perhaps a few million… I’d still be absolutely ****ing ragin.

I think someone is taking the piss with that tbh. No danger anyone at the club signs off on that. Its the antithesis of common sense

Unless it was done before Tony was involved, mind Tony wasn’t involved in the appointment of Del.

Don’t bank on this not being true, by the way.

I presume the Scotland squad meets up ahead of Curacao on Tuesday, so whoever's pushing this story is trying to wrap it up by then or it goes away for a month.

He joins up with Scotland for the World Cup in 48hrs time , he could sign for them tomorrow but doesn’t officially join them until 15th June.

It's 2026, tapping up jumped the shark a long time ago.

It might no be true but Scotland meet up on Monday. If he has a clause to allow him to leave, and the club honour it, it could easily be agreed with the formalities to come before that.

I hope not, but tonight has seen far too much smoke for their not be concerned with a fire.

That boy could maybe do a job, scored 2 against Hibs for Molde.

I think it probably is true. The bit I don’t believe is he has a £0 release clause in his contract.

“hyping”. It’s a bizarre story to come out of nowhere if it isn’t true.

It’s also worded a lot more forcefully than the “weighing up” nonsense that Keith Jackson used to use.

Would love to keep him. But he's 31 in August and we don't know what causes etc may be in his contract.

I did find it interesting he had nothing to say about the season ending, most of our players posted a message. Maybe he did and I missed it. Thats not to say I doubt his commitment though.

Tbf, it's hardly "come out of nowhere", he's been reportedly on the verge of signing for them just about every transfer window he's been at Hearts. It's turned out to be bollocks every other time.

Also, where are folk getting the "£0 release clause" from? There's no mention of anything like that in the article.

Chris Boyd was on that podcast with Naismith and Sutton last week saying if he had his Rangers head on he would go and get McIness and Shankland

You just wonder if he knows something
