Bozi Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Derek McInnes stands on the verge of being the greatest Hearts manager in 65 years, no ifs or buts, the greatest! What has been achieved so far is astonishing, yes Jamestown has brought us some cracking players but the likes of Halkett, Kingsley, Beni, Devlin, the so-called "legacy" players have all improved massively under his leadership. This is the point where I hold my hands up and admit, over the last 5-6 years, every time he was linked with us I was speptical, by God has he shown me the error of my judgement. I loves Jefferies, I loved Sergio and Burley but I seriously doubt any other manager in the 40 years I have watched Hearts would have us this close or would have gotten us to this point, with this group of players. Then we have Lawrence Shankland, the man who we all resigned ourselves to losing last summer and now stands on the brink of eclipsing Skacel, Adam, Robertson as a true legend of the club and possibly one of our best every players. His goal scoring record is sensational but it's how much better he makes everyone in the team around him that puts him in the true great bracket. I regale my sons of stories of Levein,Colquhoun, Robertson and McKay, the players I grew up watching. I tell tales of Skacel, Fyssas, Hartley, Pressley and Bednar and the team that started the season on fire. McCann, Adam,Cameron and the likes all became legends with cup wins in 98,06 + 2012. This team stands on the verge of something greater, monumental and are writing their names into the folklore of our club 3 games to go, BELIEVE
FootOfDavros Posted May 7 Posted May 7 What I'd like to say re McInnes is that regardless of what we sometimes think about his team selections and "tinkering", etc is that he is obviously a great thinker and that's probably what's helped these legacy players you mentioned and also helped the team wring out the absolute maximum in terms of results. Great example was his post match interview just on Monday there. Like a lot of people I was totally baffled by the inclusion of Chesnokov in the starting line-up. Like the vast majority I suspect, I thought if any changes were made it would have been Kerjota after his heroics at Easter Road. Could for the life of me work out the rationale and it was no surprise to see him pulled at half time. But then afterwards, I heard him getting interviewed and he was talking about their analysis about how Rangers set up and how they had a real belief Chesnokov could play between the lines and cause some real damage and put them on the back foot. I thought it was brilliant hearing that. Sure ultimately it didn't work but it's brilliant to see he's looking at it at that level and not just going with the gut selection. And at least he has the wherewithal to know quickly when to make these changes - I think earlier in the season there were a lot of complaints re sitting on the same starting line up too long but he cut loose quickly on that setup when he realised it wasn't working.
Serge Pizzorno Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Didn't get to see Robbo, grew up adoring Rudi. IF we do it, Shankland goes above and beyond anyone from the last 60 years, imo of course.
thegreatsd Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Great OP and couldn’t agree more. It’s been some season. I’ve witnessed Halketts late winner against Hibs which topped my all time favourite Tynecastle moment which was Jose v tic. Monday nights game also knocked my two all time favourite Tynecastle games of Prague and Munich down a space too. It’s seriously been an amazing season and hopefully gets even better shortly👍🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻

RudiSkacelsLeftPeg Posted May 7 Posted May 7 This is our league title. King Del the great 🇱🇻🇱🇻 Let the sons of Gorgie get it over the line.
Rudi5kaceldream1ng Posted May 7 Posted May 7 No hype or melodrama from me. Calm. Focused. Clinical. All this hyperbole imo is a distraction from the goal. Anything which is a distraction isn't helpful and impacts focus. Get it over the line as functional, and boring as possible as far as I'm concerned. Everyone can start the hype and hyperbole after but there's zero point in hyping it before we've won anything.
Australis Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Can't wait until it's over. Realising more than ever now we really are in the mix and have a fantastic chance of getting it over the line. 🤞🤞🤞❤️❤️❤️🤞🤞🤞

AC Mallin_51 Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Honestly goes above “legendary” status for me. It’s “immortality” status. It’s build statues, rename stands etc level of status they’d gain at our club. Ever single one of them. Even guys like Kabore, would be remembered in decades as a title winning hero. Del goes into conversation as greatest ever manager shanks goes into conversation as greatest ever player And big Craigy, who’s in a league of his own, gets a league winners medal at Hearts after producing the most incredible save of the season. I will be a bubbling wreck if I see maroon & white ribbons on that trophy but nothing will set me off like seeing Craig Gordon hoist it above his head 😭

I couldn't make the 98 cup final but watched it at The Craigmillar Hearts club, 19 years old and crying as Robbie lifted the trophy and out his hand to his heart...not sure I can cope with Gordon doing the same

We ain’t there yet it’s still going to be tough and I do expect a hiccup on the way. Still think this may goto the last game.

Just a bag of nerves, not being used to challenging and in this position again. We are ticking games off, the wee team filth, the sevco zombies, hopefully Motherwell next. I've got it in my head the officials will have us down to ten men against Motherwell and Falkirk for the daftest reasons to derail us . Or we will make the daftest defensive errors to derail ourselves. The gaffer and players seem very confident we will get it done, it's what's keeping me going, their confidence.🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞 The dream keeps going, down to three games now it could happen, I am desperate and looking forward to it happening, but still glass half empty than full. Wish I had the confidence of the gaffer and players to enjoy it more than I currently am 🤞🤞🤞

Hopefully thats him over with, McLean on Saturday. The game itself Saturday will be tough, they are a good team, curiously Falkirk have beaten them three times and drawn the other one. Falkirk win on Saturday and 4th is theirs, another reason to wish ill on the Lochend Losers Edited May 7 by Lord Beni of Gorgie
leginten Posted May 7 Posted May 7 The talk about immortality, statues and parades is all perfectly understandable, but I must admit it’s giving me the absolute fear.

I think he has done well correcting his errors, though some of them appear to be repeat errors, that's out of an interest to get more people involved and try to bring something different to the team. I am so glad I was miles off, European football might find him out, though I see someone with a new lease of life and invigorated to adapt.

Maple Leaf Posted May 7 Posted May 7 The bulk of the credit for our incredible year goes to DM. Some of our players have had memorable seasons, which have been major factors, but it has been DM that decided on the starting line-up, the tactics, and the substitutions. And he's done it all despite a horrendous injury list. Think of the number of late goals we've scored, or the goals scored or assisted by DM substitutions. It's not luck. If we win the league he will definitely be a legend, not just with Hearts supporters for our first title in 66 years, but also throughout Scotland (except in Glasgow and Leith!!) for breaking the 40-year OF duopoly.

Suspect his two assistants have played major roles as well. They seldom get credit on here but they are doing a great job in terms of squad morale etc.
