They got him, but at that time he needed us as much as we needed him.

The real credit goes to McInnes and the board for keeping him.

that too. Considering he was no longer our player, rangers and others could’ve had him for free. But he stayed. Big Del 😎

If Shanks brings us home a league title then that, coupled with his goals to date puts him near the top of every Hearts list you could imagine.

Oh, I know that.

My post to @Armageddon was in response to him having a pop at me for something I said on here ages ago.

Think there's an argument that if he lifts the trophy, he'll be our greatest modern-day player.

Indeed there is.  Bragga is right up there too.

When he came back from injury, the improvement in the team has been impressive (that’s not to say Braga did very well in that time)… but we’re a far better side with him playing.  Dazzling player and should definitely be starting for the national side.

That's an astonishing stat.

As someone just said, if Shanks hadn't been injured, the title would be wrapped up by now.

Was chuffed to bits when we signed him and he's provided us with so many happy memories so far.

Here's to many more

Still not top John GOD Robertson for me, but he’ll be up there with him, no doubt about that.

Robbo for me as well

But it's generational. Bauld for my old man, hopefully Shanks for Junior . We all need a hero we can relate to.

It is bud. I just can’t get past my proper man love for Robbo. A constant throughout my life growing up following Hearts. A true legend in every sense of the word. Shankland is a legend already also. I absolutely love the guy, but just can’t see anyone ever replacing John for, just my personal opinion

I think he has matured into the captain role this season.  I didn’t think he was Captain material when he got the armband, but for sure, he has galvanised this squad,  and I would like to think, our coaching staff have had a hand in making him into a Captain the club deserves to have and respect

keep banging them in Shanks

He's had a fantastic season and his influence on the team is off the scale. The improvement in the team since his return  has been top drawer. How the heck he's not picked up all sorts of awards this season is beyond baffling. A lot of players have been terrific for us this season but he's my POY for sure.

I was all in on Shankland being a Hearts icon before last season

Like too many, I shamefully turned on him in 24-25, and this past summer was fine with however McInnes handled him, including if they let him go.

I was wrong. I deserve to be pelted.

He is going to play another 4 or 5 years and sometime in the early 2030's we'll have Kickback threads arguing if Shankland at the 10 is worth his vision unlocking talent around him considering he hasn't been able to press since 2029. Sometime after, he'll retire from Hearts and either go to broadcast booth or perhaps be a player/manager for some Lowland team before becoming Hearts manager.

He will be a consensus Hearts legend and we'll need Colin Chisholm to make a new cover of the Hearts song where Lawrence Shankland's name is mentioned among the others.

Very telling stat that, when he plays we win.

He has developed into a top class captain this season and his celebrations this year have shown how much the club means to him.

Rangers not signing him when he was available on a Free Transfer will go down as one of their biggest ever screw-ups.

And they’ve had more than their fair share in the last couple of decades.

The real concern is that Clarke came out with some pish a while back about “staying loyal to the players that got him to tournaments”.  It really is a blinkered outlook beyond belief.

This was actually said round the time I think Dykes was injured for some internationals.

To be fair to him, he probably considers Gordon and Shankland two of 'his' players now. He needs to start Shankland though, he's already made the mistake of thinking he could do without Gordon.

We have to thank mcinnes as without him he was away. Lovely, genuine family man that deserves a league winners medal for having integrity over fast buck. Doesn’t get any better than that

Clarke will start Adams or Dykes and it will be one of the worst managerial decisions ever.

Dykes is utter shite.

If he gets in ahead of Shankland we deserve to get beat of Haiti.

For co text imo The likes of Curtis Main and Bruce Anderson are better than Dykes.

Taking Che Adams to the world cup will be one of the worst managerial decisions ever IMO.

The guy has done absolutely nothing in a Scotland Jersey except score against the diddies.

What is frustrating as well is that we actually have depth at striker which Clarke refuses to utilise:

Lawrence Shankland

Ross Stewart

Barney Stewart

Oli McBurnie

Robbie Ure

Kieron Bowie

But instead we're subjected to George Hirst, Tommy Conway, an aging Dykes (albeit I rate him) and an utterly useless Che Adams..

In that last camp there was a brilliant opportunity to dig into that depth, but rather than give himself options, he doubled down on shite out of "loyalty"... smh.

Hirst and Conway both played huge parts in massively successful seasons at club level.

He’s an absolute joy to watch. A Rolls Royce of a footballer. Shame he’ll still only get a combined 6-8 minutes at the World Cup.

Shanks is far and away our best striker for the World Cup. Add in his leadership qualities and he should be a certain starter. Anything less will be a farce. I’m sure fans of other clubs would agree.

Agreed, we have a manager who places more importance upon running about for his strikers than scoring ability.  And that just ties back to his complete lack of confidence in his squad. Put simply, he doesn't believe, despite the fact he has a champions league winner, serial A player of the year and many other really good players at his disposal.

Robbie Neilson and Joe Savage 👏👏

Despite the mixed feelings towards these two, they got us the best striker we’ve had since Robbo.

i honestly thought we’d just never have that 20 goal striker. He is phenomenal

Savage made mistakes towards the end, but Shankland, Devlin, Beni were great signings. Keeping Halkett and Kingsley when they were on form and almost out of contract was also very important.

It defies logic but Clarke stubbornly sticks to his favourites. It cost us dearly in the Euros and might do again in June.

I think it's the other way about.

Adams isn't my cup of tea either, but he has played regularly at a higher level and is at his " peak".

Dykes is horseshit and isn't any better than the likes of Bruce Anderson.

Tbh, I don't rate either but if it has to be one, I'd take Adams over Dykes

If half our midfield are injured for Scotland, I’d play Shankland with Dykes and McT just behind.

Dykes won’t score any goals, But Shankland will feed off the knock downs and either score or play in McSauce.
