Devlin has been pretty average for most of his Hearts career but had hit a real purple patch earlier in the season when he was constantly played 30- 40 yards further up the park and did what he's very good at harrying, hassling, being a pain in the arse and turning the ball over. He will never be a playmaker, getting the ball from the goalkeeper and continually starting attacks, why McInnes & Leonard allowed him to do this on Sunday is beyond me. He lacks positional awareness and gets sucked towards the ball. That’s one of his bad habits. Safe passing and getting involved in things he shouldn’t.

So I said, 'He says you need to pass forward more, you need to switch your play more and you need to shoot more'. "He actually didn't but now he thinks he did!" Why would he say that in particular?

Possibly worth fitting him with a collar that omits a high piercing sound, activated when he goes anywhere near our box .

We would have lost 3-2 with that on Sunday as he wouldn’t have been able to stop a goal with that last ditch tackle in the second half (no idea where the back 4 were on that occasion).

Tbh any professional football player should be able to have a shot at goal. Unfortunately Cammy and Beni have a nose bleed when they get near the 18 yard line. Surely they can be trained to do it? Maybe Shanks could do the honours.

No because we would have been 3 or 4 up at the time because we would have pressurised Livingston far more if we didn't have him pissing about in our box.
busbyfth Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Your point re the words Match Fit...spot on ! If you note - Shanks/Devlin/Halkett/Kingsley/Chesnokov.....none properly fully "match fit" eg having their eye in through both mental and physical fitness/timing ....and it was blatant....its all very well players coming back in - but when theres so many at the one time , they need to be at it quickly, or we drip feed them back.... - 2 month absences need 2-3 full games for this to happen. Kingsleys crossing was off....Halkett was a yard slow (like he was before coming back this season) Devlin looked just out of the game and shanks missed chances as if his timing was slightly out eg the sitter header. Chesnokov looked like he was playing a different sport
