Mikey1874 Posted March 3 Posted March 3 (edited) Sandro Schwarz and Wilfried Nancy both coached in Major League Soccer (MLS), the primary professional soccer league in the United States (often referred to as "American soccer"). Sandro Schwarz (German) served as head coach of the New York Red Bulls from December 2023 until his departure in late 2025 (parted ways on October 27, 2025, with some sources noting end of year). Wilfried Nancy (French) coached the Columbus Crew from December 2022 until December 2025 (departed to Celtic FC on December 3, 2025, though he had a brief unsuccessful stint there afterward). Their tenures in MLS overlapped significantly including matches against each other (Nancy held a positive record in head-to-heads, winning 3 of 6 encounters with 1 draw and 2 losses). Comparative Records in MLS/American Soccer. Sandro Schwarz at New York Red Bulls (2024–2025 seasons, ~2 years): Total matches across all competitions: 81. Record: 28 wins, 27 losses, 26 draws (approximately 34.6% win rate) Goals: 122 scored, 110 conceded (+12 goal difference) Notable: Led the Red Bulls to the MLS Cup Final in 2024 (a strong playoff run despite a middling regular season), but the team missed the playoffs in 2025, leading to his dismissal. Some reports described his overall tenure as one of the weaker in the club's modern era statistically. Wilfried Nancy at Columbus Crew (2023–2025 seasons, ~3 years): Total matches across all competitions: ~136 (one source cites 136 with 69W-37D-30L; another aligns with ~71W-32D-33L including cups. Record: Approximately 50.7% win rate overall MLS regular season (with Crew): 49 wins, 23 losses, 30 draws (0.628 points per game) Postseason (with Crew): 6 wins, 4 losses, 1 draw. Broader MLS career (including earlier CF Montréal stint): 81 wins, 44 losses, 45 draws in regular season (0.609 win rate); 7-5-1 in postseason. Goals/achievements: Led Crew to MLS Cup title (2023), Leagues Cup (2024), and strong regular seasons (e.g., franchise records in points, goals, goal differential). Won 2024 Sigi Schmid MLS Coach of the Year. His Crew were known for high-scoring, possession-based, entertaining play. Key Comparison Nancy had a clearly superior record: higher win percentage (~50%+ vs. ~35%), better goal differentials, and major trophies (MLS Cup, Leagues Cup) versus Schwarz's one deep playoff run but no titles and a disappointing final season. Nancy transformed Columbus into a top contender with consistent success and awards recognition. Schwarz implemented high-pressing tactics and achieved a memorable 2024 playoff push but struggled for consistency, leading to an earlier exit from MLS. Both are no longer in MLS as of early 2026 (Schwarz without a club; Nancy briefly at Celtic before being fired in January 2026). Nancy's tenure in American soccer stands out as far more successful comparatively. Edited March 3 by Mikey1874

Rudy T Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 They could’ve had this guy when they sacked Thelin so it’s in no way a panic appointment 🤣 I doubt he’ll be in the dug out tomorrow but hopefully the players put some effort in to impress him if he’s in the stands. Somehow I doubt it they all look like they’d rather be somewhere else.

His MLS record doesn't look too rosy. At least Thelin won a cup 🤣

Exotic Foreign name? ✅️ Available at short notice? ✅️ Experienced? ✅️ : Managed 3 clubs over the previous 10 months. Record? ✅️ Would fit in seamlessly with recent appointments:- 5 wins in 21; Real Zaragosa 11 losses in 28; Hull City 0 wins in 3 months; Sheffield United Character? ✅️ : Resiliant - 3 dismissals in 291 days shows this in abundance
