Niall Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Really hope the club don't stand in his way. McIness giving him a derisory 2-3 minutes every six weeks isn't cutting it as a development strategy.
neilnunb Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Arsenal supposedly looking at Mooney at St Mirren also. All I've seen of him is taking a couple of pens in shootouts against us.
H2 Posted February 2 Posted February 2 If Bowie is worth £7m, how much is Wilson worth? £15m (by comparison)

boag1874 Posted February 2 Posted February 2 That’s brilliant for him. Hopefully net us a nice wee transfer sum & a sell on for when Arsenal inevitably flip him to a Championship team for a profit.

Captain Sausage Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Can't begrudge Wilson a move to Arsenal development team at this point. He's miles down the pecking order - Shankland, Braga, Kabore, Kabangu then Wilson. If we consider Mato and Chesnekov as competent through the middle, I don't think it's a huge risk to us. Add in that we appear to be browsing for another striker, I just don't see a route to the first team for the boy. With Shankland out and if we got any further injuries, we can always go 4-3-3 with a single striker for a game or two if needed. We've plenty wingers.
Australis Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Says on the Arsenal forum they are making a bit of about 260,000 for a young St Mirren 18 year old too.
rudi must stay Posted February 2 Posted February 2 If I was manager he'd be my first name on the team sheet in the big games (Celtic, Rangers and Hibs) he has alot of potential. Good luck to him he will be a great player

Deodato Posted February 2 Posted February 2 All the chat down here in Norf London is on Arsenal in talks for James Wilson.

First chance of a title win in about 6 decades but should probably drop one of our two top goal scorers to ensure an 18 year old gets more than his 2 or 3 derisory minutes.

Ibrahim Tall Posted February 2 Posted February 2 2 minutes ago, Niall said: So send him out on loan if you are never going to use him And if Kabore/Braga get injured or suspended? We’ve got a squad for a reason and Wilson’s part of that.
Bauld Posted February 2 Posted February 2 (edited) It took one post for someone to stick the boot into DM on a totally irrelevant thread Honestly there will be hearts fans throwing their bags of dog shit at his statue if he ever gets one. Wilson has amazing potential but that is all it is. He is not currently better than Shankland, Braga or Kabore and physically still miles behind guys like Kabangu. If we kept him he should go out on loan for the next couple of seasons to get regular football and that is what he should have done this season. However I believe Wilson himself chose not to go on loan. If Arsenal take him he will be in their U23s and out on loan long before he gets anywhere near their first team because just like if he stays he has a long way to go and a lot of growing still to do physically and mentally. DalryJambo Posted February 2 Posted February 2 If we get £5m spend it all on Tawanda Maswanhise plus a few players on loan (Forrester, Spittal)

pettigrewsstylist Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Good news for lad. Does it suggest we have incoming 🤷♂️
Jambo-Fox Posted February 2 Posted February 2 22 minutes ago, davemclaren said: How many first team minutes will he get at Arsenal? None!! Initially. But assuming he makes the first team squad in 2 to 4 years time he will be classified as ‘home grown’ by UEFA. And that makes him a huge asset because you need 8 in a European squad of 25. Assuming the eventual fee is a few £ millions then it’s good for all.
Masonic Posted February 2 Posted February 2 If we can scam them out 2m we are laughing. A loan is pointless though.
Cruyff Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Sounds glamorous but the way I look at it, cannae get a game for Hearts so wtf would you go to Arsenal? I think its a bad move. But I'll take the money 💰 I'm sure it'll be a lot.

Jambo-Fox Posted February 2 Posted February 2 He’ll most likely be included in the Arsenal U21 squad and will play in Premier League 2 with and against similar aged players.
bobby bombscare Posted February 2 Posted February 2 31 minutes ago, davemclaren said: How many first team minutes will he get at Arsenal? None but he signed with us for a (considerably) lower wage than he was being offered elsewhere as the club said he would be making less money but developing more by playing first team football. He's now making less money and stalled his development. So either you move down for even less money to play first team football you take the cash and go into the youth system of a big club.

Niall Posted February 2 Posted February 2 4 minutes ago, Gorgie_Rules said: A loan is exactly what the proposed Arsenal move is. That makes no sense. He isn't going to play for Aresenal this season (they are also going for a title) and he isn't going to play for us either. He needs a loan to a level where he is going to play regularly to get his career back on track. Or a move to a straight move Arsenal where he would get a better standard of coaching and development would be preferable. If we had a sell on clause we would benefit eventually. McIness wants to get "his players" in and it is clear that Wilson isn't one of them. That is, to an extent, understandable.
Bill Sikes Posted February 2 Posted February 2 What a brilliant opportunity for the lad. Arsenal or East Fife on loan until the end of the season. You have to be howling at the moon to be seeing any negatives for anybody here.

We are trying to win things here.

Of first team football this season is no good for his development. Especially when Kabangu is the chosen sub over you never mind getting a starting place.

No doubt he'll learn a lot but I think he could have got a move somewhere that there is more chance of him getting to a first team. Hey, long as they give us loadsa money 💰

Seaside Dave Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Looks like arsenal will pay a small loan fee and cover his wages for the duration. This could lead to a free transfer to arsenal after 18 months. Not sure how this is good for hearts other than saving money on his wages. No idea what the small loan fee is either but doubt it's millions
Jambo in Bathgate Posted February 2 Posted February 2 47 minutes ago, davemclaren said: How many first team minutes will he get at Arsenal? He’ll go into their development team. Football in England will suit him much more time on the ball. Also not as physical.

Smithian Posted February 2 Posted February 2 James Wilson playing at Hearts is better for his development than sitting at a massive club. But if he has to sit on the bench, may as well do so at Arsenal where there is a decent reserve league. I’ll believe it when I see it, but I wouldn’t be surprised. James Wilson is clearly a talented young man and did a solid job yesterday pressed into action under Critchley and Fox when relegation was a legit fear. I think any other time, he enters this year in the playing rotation. But instead Hearts when out and signed multiple older strikers who hit the ground running. If he goes, I’ll remember him as an 18 year old helping avert disaster for the club. And I’ll hope he has fond memories of Tynecastle and that the club has a positive send off, because Marc Leonard is a reminder you never know when paths can cross again.
