I’m flying out today and have 4 games lined up over a week. Booked this trip knowing there was little chance I would get a ticket for Easter Road but after walking out of Tynecastle yesterday with an immense feeling of pride my mind will definitely be elsewhere come boxing day.
I’ve done very little research into squads as it’s always more exciting picking out players unknown to me and then doing the research after they’ve caught my eye.

These teams are brutal! I think hearts would win the tournament if we were in it. The teams are about as good as Dundee and Partick

Quite surprised Congo haven’t looked to get Beni or Kabangu involved.

Although I remember an interview from Beni where he stated his family may not be too keen on the idea.

I'm surprised but delighted that Beni has flown under the radar of the national team.

Zambia score in injury time to snatch a draw against Mali. Patson Daka of Leicester with the goal. Mali were very comfortable through much of the game and even missed a penalty before half time. Thought they looked a decent side but not the most clinical in the final third. Poor defending at the end cost them the full 3 points.

This stadium is very Tardini-esque. Big fan.

A 2-1 win in the end for South Africa. Only caught some of it but wasn't the worst match i've seen.

Mo Salah's Egypt up next

Some game this. Egypt look dangerous with every attack, but could easily be two down.

You'll see that in every game. Been that way for years.

It's seemingly endemic in football these days.

Maswhanise on for the last 10. Not much chance to do anything.

Here's hoping some of the other games are better....

Absolute shocker of a goal to concede for Benin.

DR Congo send a long ball over the top, Benin defender ducks under the ball and lets it bounce, DR Congo striker says thanks very much, takes a touch, back of the net.

I took 18/1 the brace

Just a reminder the strikers on the other side of Kabore went for £40m and £13m each - he’s out scoring them 😂

he could easily be sold in January before properly playing for us

All the top European clubs have scouted this tournament for years.

You wouldn’t be surprised to get an offer out of the blue for Kabore if he has a good tournament

Even if we flipped him for ‘just’ £2 million that’s astounding business

Yep, same for every AFCON.

Crowds are always pitiful.

Most African nations are poor, and travel within Africa is extremely expensive, so when you have 2 smaller nations like this it just won't be a big crowd. The tournament is in Morocco, which isn't as easy for travel as the last tournament in Ivory Coast for most nations. I can't understand why they have these games in these enormous arenas, instead of smaller stadiums like the ones we've seen in Rabat.

I was in Morocco last month and they were endlessly giving it 'We're football obsessed', 'AFCON next month' etc etc. I appreciate they're two Shan teams but I'd hoped based on that more locals may have gone along...or even official bods and sponsors to at least make an attempt of having more there.

Tbf it is half 1 on a Wednesday over there, so I think that would limit the amount of neutrals or locals going along. Crowds were good at the last AFCON but it was helped by the fact that most of the stadiums were mostly about 20,000 rather than the majority of these stadiums in Morocco seating about 50,000 or more.

A lot of the stadiums are also pretty old with very shallow banking and with a running track around the pitch so that dilutes the atmosphere too.

Morocco, being a World Cup 2030 host, has been building new stadiums too, to FIFA standards.

This beauty is a 69,000 seater.

It's filled up a bit now which is good. That said, they've not missed anything, these are two dreadful football teams

I’ll never forget how annoying those instruments were when the WC was in South Africa.
