Provisionally got accommodation in Providence booked, TBC but that’s our plan.

Wee trip to NY in there too, got tickets to the Sunday of the US open at Shinnecock Hills.

I noticed Amtrak is jacking the fares way up during the competition.

Should you book anything on Amtrak pay a few bucks extra, select the FLEX fare, it's 100% refundable as long as you cancel before scheduled departure time.

I'm going down early on the day of the final and coming back on the last train out. we paid less than $100 each.

Hotel prices are insane that night. I work for Hilton and i can't get anything under a grand.

Manhattan is going to be a carnival that day.

I’m planning on going 11th -15th June. Any suggestions on good locations to look for accommodation? Nothing booked yet.

I'm staying next to Boston common, which is said can be a bit dodgy but looks ok on street view. Also the theatre district? Is it as dodgy as some people say?

Amtrak seemed crazily expensive at 233 dollars one way from New York so plumped for bus for the two games. Still came in at £313 for the two of us but that's it done and now looking forward to seeing Boston itself. Don't want to spend all day in the fanpark or a pub so will be researching what's fun in town.

It’s brutal any time friend. Add a World Cup and it’s worse. Do some research on Boston metro and towns out in suburbs

Got a hotel with free cancellation in Providence for the first game. Prices are crazy, but this one was not bad, will keep an eye out in case they fluctuate in Boston itself.

Had looked at Waltham which is on the outskirts of Boston but looked very much like you need a car and there's no interest in driving.

I see they are putting on a special train service but only capacity for up to 20k which feels low given the capacity of the stadium. Looks an absolute nightmare to get to and from.

Really looking forward to Boston though, somewhere I've always wanted to go.

This. Get on the commuter rail website for both North and South station. South station caters for south and I believe west of the city.
North station caters to the north shore.

Both stations bring you literally down town.

South station is close to the Seaport area (hotels, restaurants) China town, theatre district, back bay Boston Common.

North station drops you off under The Garden. Home of the Bruins and Celtics. (Check play off schedule) June is prime for both sport play-offs. Red Sox season will be in full swing too. Also near the North End(Italian restaurant on top of Italian restaurant. That area will be nuts if Italy qualify. Seaport also. Aquarium, Charlestown, Museum of Science and Cambridge.
Boston for the most part is a walking town. Once in you can walk almost anywhere. The T is the public transportation service. Mostly like the London Tube. Goes just about everywhere in the city. Color coded trains for easier clarity.
This thread over the next few months will be a big help to visitors.

Enjoy!!

What do you recommend in Salem? Best pub? Best Street food/food places?any beer gardens?

That's where our tartan army Batallion will be stationed.

Hi Jambo's in Boston.  Thanks for opening this thread, sure it will be a big help. I'm booked up with couple other Jambo mates staying in a hotel in Somerville area of Boston. Looks on the map ok with a few bars and restaurants dotted around and not to far from centre by public transport. The Boston Common bus to the stadium mentioned on other WC thread is already a good shout we'll defo look into.  Cheers..

Posted

Me and a few other lads are staying in the Red Roof Plus hotel in Foxborough. Only 6 miles from the stadium. Public transport doesn't look too clever though, as the bus goes all the way into Boston centre before it heads to the stadium. Nearly a 3 hour bus journey to travel 6 miles  no thanks.

We get kicked out the hotel on the 20th, pick up an RV and drive the 1500 miles down the east coast to Miami.

Thoroughly looking forward to the trip.

Posted

We are booked in near Braintree for 3 nights, as others have said public transport doesn’t look great but I suspect we will just end up getting Ubers into the city centre - unless they are ridiculously expensive?

Think I have managed to do flights + internal transport and 3 nights accommodation near Boston for £1200, could have been worse but it’s an expensive weekend!

Posted

Managed to get flights and a hotel in the Back Bay area (we looked at AirBnB but it was surprisingly much cheaper going with a package deal from Barrhead).

We’ll do our trips to Salem, NYC etc but any recommendations on bars and restaurants in Boston proper would be welcome!

(Also resume news of the fanzones will be released closer to the games, which is where myself and my mates will be).

Is Warwick any good, plan to take a car to nearest rail transit and go from there, game days get an Uber. Notice theres a rail link to stadium on game days off the Providence-Boston line

Here you go, if your game enough…..RV (large) pick up in Boston, sleeps 7, 13 - 25 June at £2650.  You get a wee adventure thrown in between games as well, accommodation and transport sorted.

£440 per person based on 6 sharing…..that’s a steal.  Add food, fuel, beer.

I hired one in Canada, you can go off grid, generator/solar panels etc.

Bring your golf clubs and beach towels.

Not much there for night life.
45 mins up to Boston

45 mins over to Gillette (longer game day)

45 mins down to some very good beach areas.

Plymouth is nice. Check out the Plymouth Rock where the Pilgrims first stepped onto (supposedly) American soil. Try not to be blown away with it.

I've booked a hotel on Brookline for 3 nights. Cannot wait.

Public transport (T) is fine out of Braintree. A few stops in Quincy and then into Boston. Not sure their plans on public transport for the Haiti game. Last train from Boston to Braintree is probably 12.30, but you need to get from Gillette to Boston first. Probably better to Uber from Braintree to Gillette. Some hotels may do buses for a fee if they know the hotel is full of fans.

Yankee Lobster. Then do the Harpoon brewery beer hall. 2 minute walk. Harpoon will be hopping. Down in the Seaport.

I've stayed in a shitty Motel 6 out in Framingham before. Was fairly cheap and the train in to town was a short walk away.

Did a quick check on room rates. It's $74 a night if you booked tonight.

But $388 a night if you booked around the date of our first game :muggy:

The Regina Pizzeria is decent. They have a few locations now but I went to the one on Thacher St. It's close to one of Mike's Pastry joints too. Been to Joe's American Bar and Grill a few times as well – rated that.

I live in Pawtuxet Village in Warwick. Providence airport is actually in Warwick, so there are a ton of hotels here, plus Amtrak and 'T' links to Boston and Foxboro. Staying in Warwick/Providence, your best bet might be to club together and get an Uber to the games if the public transport is a nightmare.

There is a Scottish bar in the Jamaica Plain area of Boston called 'The Haven'. Check their website, they're already posting about being a meeting place for fans going to the game or watching there. Happy to help with other advice if anyone needs it.

Mon Haiti...;)

Flying up from NC on the Friday 12th , son arrives from Edi Friday afternoon and we're in Boston Common for 2 nights, now to get some tickets :)

Thanks for starting the thread Boston Jambo. I’ve booked nine nights in Boston at a hotel in Chelsea. No idea what the area’s like but 5 mins walk from a T station so should be good for getting about. Appreciate any suggestions for keeping a 16 year old entertained in. Boston other than watching football! I see the Red Sox are scheduled to have a few games that week so might try and get tickets (if they’re playing badly, I know it’ll be harder if they’re playing well).

If you can’t get tickets for Fenway and a game try to at least book a tour of the stadium. It’s a good take. Be careful in Chelsea if walking around. It’s June so not dark until 9.30/10. Just know your surroundings. You’re about 10 mins from the Encore Casino. Don’t think a 16 year old will get in though.

Sidelines more for locals

O’Neills is good and downtown

Olde Main St I don’t know but in the tourist area. So probably fine.

Far from the Tree is a craft cider house with beer garden. 10 minute walk from downtown Salem.
Salem is a great take. Just not in October.

Cheers. Have got free cancellation on the hotel but slim pickings on the accommodation front last Saturday, never mind now. I spent a lot of time in San Francisco so I’m sure it won’t be any worse than around the Tenderloin!

I’ve booked 8 nights in the Chelsea area of Boston. Close to the T station and looks like a short hop to the downtown area.

Looking forward to exploring some of the city and might try and take in a Red Sox game, if possible.

Have also sorted out accommodation in Miami. Just need to get return flights booked from Boston and cross my fingers in the ticket ballot.
