il Duce McTarkin Posted November 4 Posted November 4 I'll probably be spending Christmas away from my kids again this year. That got me in pieces, tbh.
Muppetboy Posted November 4 Posted November 4 What says Xmas more than a 90s dance classic? Lewis ads getting crapper each passing year

Hit me quite hard as well. Myself and the wife are going through some challenges and has led to a separation (hopefully not permanent 🤞🏻) but this could be my first Christmas away from her and the laddie. Dreading it tbh.

Locky Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Can't fault the music choice for the John Lewis ad tbf. Great tune.
Der Kaiser Posted November 4 Posted November 4 (edited) Looks like he bought him a reissue and not an original pressing. Wee twat. WAIT! That's not even the right song. Image on that vinyl is for Labrinth version and NOT Alison Limerick!!!! So either the son is a bigger twat. The record shop has mixed up its stock And The Dad knows **** all about vinyl. Boycott John Lewis! Edited November 4 by Der Kaiser

highlandjambo3 Posted November 5 Posted November 5 Christmas can fe* right off. Retailers squeezing already skint people, skint people going way over board in spending for kids, kids just wanting more and more, they can’t open presents quick enough. The days following Christmas depressing with the realisation that your skint.

Fitzroy Pointon Posted November 5 Posted November 5 Well done son, that's taken your old man right back to the early 90's when he had not a care in the world. His weekends were spent pilled out his face, loving everyone, having drug-fuelled sex with gorgeous young women at after parties. He was young, slim, good-looking and had his pick of the birds. He still stayed at home, no bills to worry about and enough disposable to buy whatever he wanted. Now he's stuck with that torn-faced bitch of a mother of yours and isn't allowed to play his records as she gets jealous of the young man he used to be. He hates his job, he hates you kids, his wife dresses him and he has to spend the rest of his Christmas day with that bitch of a mother in law. Well done son.

That's the responsibility of teachers, local authorities and government.

Carl Fredrickson Posted November 6 Posted November 6 I love Christmas. In my mid 50s with a 15 year old and 10 year old. They come to mine at noon having spent Christmas eve and Christmas morning at their mums. We play Uno and you have to win a game to open a present. Makes present opening a more relaxed affair and we have tunes on as we play. Kids arent spoilt (IMO) but get more than I got in the 1970s. I plan ahead and have most bought and paid for by the end of November. This allows December pay to pay for days out etc as we go to panto (kids also perform in a panto for a week), 5 Sisters Zoo and a wee weekend down south. My disposable income isnt what it used to be but planning and budgeting makes a huge difference. My neighbour will have their decs up next week. We dont put a big tree up as the kids would rather use the space to put up a Lego Christmas display each year.

So that when I finish work Christmas Eve afternoon this year. I can get home, put my feet up and relax. I no longer have young, young children. My youngest is 17, my eldest 39 and a 35yrs old in between. 39 and 35 years old live 400 miles south of me and do their own thing. We will chat on the phone Christmas day. 17yrs old lives Seven houses further along the same road with his mum. We will have a Christmas day breakfast together and open presents. He will have Christmas dinner with his mum, half sister and her side of his family. Then he comes to me Boxing Day, we have a Christmas dinner together then, along with my partner.

It is great to have a plan and not panicking nearer the time. Kids grow up so quick and I dread when I will eventually have an empty! I finish on 12th December until January but have volunteered to work Christmas eve to allow others with kids to have that time with their kids.

A bit of planning goes a long way, for me I never have a stressful Christmas. I personally don't understand my work colleagues who fret about how stressful they find it. I put it down to their lack of forward planning.

I was talking to pals last night who have 2 kids and they said it was too early to think about Christmas. That gave me the fear. I hated Christmas shopping in December when I was younger. Panic buying, not much choice etc
