It's wild that we're in a position where this wouldn't worry me hugely, if it was just for one game. I'd feel more sad for Shanks if he was denied his Scotland comeback, although obviously that could be better for us.
Lord Beni of Gorgie Posted November 5 Posted November 5 Pure clickbait that Shankland story, got a minor knock on his foot and may even have been training today, bottom of the story only Pollock and Hof out, even Kent and Fulton are back
OmiyaHearts Posted November 5 Posted November 5 Even if Shankland needs rested for this game, it's no major concern. We have goals all over the front line.

Rudy T Posted November 5 Posted November 5 Took a sore one against Dundee. If we are cruising on Sunday get him off early and give him a rest. Not that I think we will be, tough game I suspect.
BigStein Posted November 5 Posted November 5 McInnes confirms that it should just be Hof and Pollock unavailable at the weekend with Ageu, Kent and Fulton returning to training. Hearts player out for up to six weeks, plus a Lawrence Shankland issue and Ageu update ahead of Dundee United Hof will be out for 4 to 6 weeks. There doesn't seem to be an end in sight for Pollock
OmiyaHearts Posted November 5 Posted November 5 I can only assume when press write about Hof they mix up weeks with months. Guy has spend majority of his time here on the treatment table - missed 52 games since joining July 2023. Interestingly, he was injury free for four years until he joined us.
MoncurMacdonaldMercer Posted November 7 Posted November 7 (edited) I’d take a scrappy 1-0 gladly but if we could somehow put 3* or 4 past united the panic in the celtic fans will hit the roof with a full international break to enjoy it turns out st martin who blew one league title in the last 2 minutes and lost another one on the last day and one of his most celebrated seasons was when rangers won the treble is not the messiah after all ☹️ * preferably with scorers like kabore mags kerjote etc - players most of them dont realise exist in our wafer-thin squad Edited November 7 by MoncurMacdonaldMercer
Carter Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Shankland has excellent for us this season. Really important he's available.
Nelly Terraces Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Apart from beating their near neighbours at Dens The Arabs haven't won out of Dundee this season & have been very inconsistent, beaten off Killie twice already but beat St Mingin 3-1 recently. We have far too much for them in every single department. The lads have had a good break with no midweek game so it's a win by at least 2 clear goals on Sunday. I'd say 4-1 actually. Bring it on. HHGH.
pettigrewsstylist Posted November 7 Posted November 7 We need to defend set peices properly. Its where they can get some joy.

Problem solved.
Hertz21 Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Really hope to see Ageu on Sunday! The wait is making my excitement grow

upgotheheads Posted November 7 Posted November 7 It's interesting how every game we play now is under more and more pressure. Everyone is waiting for us to fail, and games in which a draw wouldn't have been that bad a result now need to be wins. Dundee United will come at us with all guns blazing, I think, hoping to get an early goal and get to halftime with a lead they can defend for the rest of the game. I think McInnes will do the same, to get the early goal which would mean they have to attack us for 90 minutes.

I hope they do come at us so we can scud them stupid. I can see this being a close game, but also see it being a romping. Depends on small margins sometimes. They are so inconsistent. We'll need to be on it to win at any sort of canter, but I have faith that we can do that. Edited November 7 by Born Again Nade

We'll need to be on it to win at any sort of canter, but I have faith that we can do that. I watched their game against Hibs a few weeks back and their keeper was an accident waiting to happen every cross ball into the box. Weak as they come and got nowhere near the ball. They were quick and dangerous on the break though so we will need to play well to win. Massive game with the break coming up, 3 points here sets us up nicely for the trip to Aberdeen where we surely have to end that horrible run without a win!
N Lincs Jambo Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Looking at their form this season they are very much "hit and miss". Three wins, three defeats and four draws. They score and concede regularly so as long as we do our job well at the back, we should win comfortably. It's very much the sort of game we need to win comfortably to keep the momentum going.
DxB Hearts Posted November 7 Posted November 7 If, and it is a big if, Shankland is out then a front two of Kabore and Braga will be really interesting to see. Could work amazingly well but a brand new partnership always takes a little time to settle.
kingantti1874 Posted November 7 Posted November 7 A banana skin for sure. The most Jekyll and Hyde team in the league. I don’t expect them to come at us all guns blazing. I expect them to sit and hope to catch us on the break or from a set play.
rmreido Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Tough game, I suspect, but 2-0 Hearts, the goals will come late on as Utd will set up for a point.

AndrewB Posted November 7 Posted November 7 A bit of a tangent, a tangerine tangent if you like, but what makes someone in Dundee a DFC or a DUFC fan? That's not a Why-Would-You-Support-Either-Of-These-Muppets question but I wonder why fans go for one rather than the other? I know the old Dundee Hibs thing, but is that a factor in the last few generations? Is it a west vs east or city centre v suburbs? I know it's Dundee we're talking about, so there probably isn't much of a middle class, but do the better classes migrate to one club over the other? Who do Dundee's Warrior Poets support? I presume the biggest factor is family traditions or were you a really old glory hunter or an 80s glory hunter?

maybolejambo Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Quite confident for this one but not so sure about Aberdeen. That crap Cypriot team have gave them a wee boost last night.
Star Lizard Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Funny team this season. Hard to predict how they will be. They seem to score a few goals though. All of Scotland want us to slip up, and Goodwin would love to be the mastermind of that particular mission. Teams are going to lifting their game against us more and more as the season continues. We need to match that. If we do, then we should fear nobody until things get reshuffled in January.

I presume the biggest factor is family traditions or were you a really old glory hunter or an 80s glory hunter? Good questions. I don't think the "Dundee Hibs" thing was ever an issue as the club became Dundee United in 1909 at a time when Dundee were so far ahead there was no real rivalry. Up until the 1960s at the earliest Dundee was by far the bigger club. United started to get its shit together in the 60s under Jerry Kerr and then in the 70s and 80s under Jim McLean. Dundee went down in the first season of the 10 team premier league in 75-76 and have pretty much been a yo-yo team ever since. I would say that Dundee were still the bigger club at that time. United and Aberdeen stayed up on GD, realised what a close shave it had been, got their act together and built towards their combined hey day in the 80s. United won 3 major trophies and Aberdeen 10 in that time. United, although they never won a European trophy were probably the most consistent Scottish club in European competition in the 80s getting to at least the QFs six years in a row, the European Cup SF in 84 and the UEFA Cup Final in 87. When we beat them 4-1 at Tynecastle in the first game of 87-88 that really was a top side we beat that day. I lived in Dundee for 4 years in the 80s and went to quite a few Dundee derbies. I could never understand why there was segregation at these games especially as their hooligan mobs combined to form their Utility mob in the casual era. The pubs around the grounds were always mixed and I can't say I ever saw any trouble between the two sets of fans. I know that doesn't fully answer your questions AB but I would say that probably United's support grew from the mid 60s through to the 80s whereas Dundee's probably peaked in the early 60s around when they won their only title.
GYL Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I thought this game was moved for TV on Sunday but can't see it anywhere Dundee v Rangers at 3pm 🤷

Lord Beni of Gorgie Posted November 7 Posted November 7 We would have won comfortably at Tannadice but for Zander Clark, I think we win this comfortably, we are red hot
Cruyff Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Utd like St Mirren will be tough. Their recruitment has been pretty good, lots of left field punts. They've got some big lads at the back as well. They are good at set pieces in both boxes and Goodwins a solid gaffer at this level, understands the league & the physical requirements needed to compete much like Robinson. I thibk we'll need to earn it.
RS86 Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I'd have Milne start on the right again for this one and ask him to track Dolček out of the game. Goodwin talked about wanting more from him through the week so he'll have a point to prove and he stood out to me last time.

Comfy old school type of place - Sweetheart Stout on tap - and walls laden with memorabilia from both DFC and DUFC. Bar appears to be frequented by both sets. Can't think or imagine of similar in Edinburgh.
