Jamboross Posted October 8 Posted October 8 With another international break upon us and a number of our squad involved in games all over the world I thought it might be an idea to have a central thread to keep track of them all, especially as I'm sure Uncle Tony will bestow some more international quality players on us in the coming windows! Today, Pierre Landry Kabore earned his 4th cap for Burkina Faso coming on for the final 8 minutes in a 1-0 win over Sierra Leone in World Cup qualifying. Unfortunately Egypt also won today so that ends any chance Burkina Faso had of qualifiying automatically but going into their final match, at home to Ethiopia on Sunday evening, they sit within the top 4 ranked second placed teams so a win there would have them looking good for progression into the inter-continental play-offs. Craig Gordon is back in the squad for the Scotland games versus Greece (tomorrow) and Belarus (Sunday) although you'd imagine Gunn will start ahead of him. More likely to see action are Liam McFarlane and James Wilson as Scotland U21s host Gibraltar in a bottom of the table clash in their Euro qualifiers tomorrow then travel to Azerbaijan on Sunday. Scotland started with 2-0 losses to both Portugal and Czechia so are up against it to have any chance of qualifying, really should be looking for comfortable wins here though. Friday afternoon gives us another chance to get a look at Chesnokov (and Kenzhebek, who we've been linked with) as Kazakhstan take on Liechtenstein. With only 1 win and 4 goals scored in their 5 games they're well out the running for qualification but should be good to see how they do in a game where they should be on the front foot. They follow that up with a game away to surprise group leaders North Macedonia on Monday evening. Friday evening (technically Saturday morning, 00:30 kick off) also gives us Canada vs Australia in a friendly with Cammy Devlin hopefully picking up his 5th cap. Australia then play the US in another friendly at 02:00 next Wednesday. I may as well include Kenny Vargas since he's still technically our player, Costa Rica take on Honduras (03:00 Friday) and Nicaragua (03:00 Tuesday) in World Cup qualifying. They've had a disappointing start, drawing with Haiti and Nicaragua, and with only the group winners qualifying (the two best 2nd place teams advance to the inter-continental playoff) directly they really need to be winning both games. We've also got Matthew Gillies and Alfie Osbourne over in Italy for a couple of Scotland U19 friendlies. Hopefully as the season goes on we can start seeing the likes of Halkett and Findlay making the break into the Scotland squad plus you've got to imagine if Kerjota and Magnusson kick on as we hope they won't be too far away from recognition with their respective countries too. Hopefully a successfull and injury free week for all invovled!
KariHMFC Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Good to see so many players involved (but selfishly good to see only 1 player who started against Hibs away on international duty).
Aussie Jambo Posted October 9 Posted October 9 I’ll be watching Australia game. So will report back about Devlin.
Footballfirst Posted October 9 Posted October 9 (edited) Macaulay Tait is another in the U21 squad. There's also Alfie Wilson away with Northern Ireland U17s for games v Portugal and USA. Edited October 9 by Footballfirst
Jamboross Posted October 9 Author Posted October 9 Make that 4-0. Wilson could have had about 4 himself by now if the cut backs had been better or knocked into the net by a defender as the last one was!
Threedoorsdown Posted October 9 Posted October 9 4-0 Wilson denied a tap in because the defender put it in instead. Wilson getting into all the right areas but they are gash.
Jamboross Posted October 9 Author Posted October 9 And that's 6-0, another for Wilson. 5 goals in 7 minutes!
thehibsareintheirbeds Posted October 9 Posted October 9 7! This has been mental 10 mins. 2 neat finishes from Wilson
jamboinglasgow Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Had a look at Gilbraltar's other games in the group, worst result is 3-0 against Bulgaria, their last game they only lost 2-1. 7-0 now after 32mins. This is mad. I suspect we wont put much effort in the second half.
JAYEL Posted October 9 Posted October 9 It’s only Gibraltar but looks like a lot of good talent in that Scotland team and really should be doing better in that group

Losing 2-0 to Spain isn't exactly unexpected and the Czechia squad were quite a bit more experienced at club level. A lot of our guys have very little senior experience at a good level, Watson, Wilson and Mebude probably being the most exposed to top league first team football, which does them no favours.

Yeah maybe a bit harsh but disappointing when you see so much talent out there Hopefully Steve Clarke is away before they progress to the first team
Footballfirst Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Subbed off after 52 mins having completed his hat trick.
Jamboross Posted October 9 Author Posted October 9 9-0, hat-trick for Emilio Lawrence now. He's been impressive, Man City academy player.

Forrest Posted October 9 Posted October 9 I hope James comes back to training next week, and says: "boys, see humping teams by double figures - it's *** magic by the way. We should start doing it!"

Which begs the question as to why Tait never gets a game?

Martindale was saying the same recently - that Taits the one of the only players in the age bracket who starts every game, he’s playing well and somehow isn’t even in the squad. Think he only got drafted in this time because of an injury? Very strange to be honest. Robbie Ure has got to be someone to watch, although he might already be out of our price bracket. Scored 11 and assisted 4 in 26 games in the Swedish top flight for a team that’s flirting just above the relegation spots. Only 21 too.
Captain Lithuania Posted October 10 Posted October 10 I see Liam McFarlane has been invited to train with the senior team. Hope he gets a chance next season.
Mikey1874 Posted October 10 Posted October 10 James Wilson got a match ball for his hatrick last night as well as Emilio Lawrence (who also qualifies for England) for his 4 goals.
boag1874 Posted October 10 Posted October 10 Really pleased for Wilson - he’s had to be patient this season so it’s great to see him banging the goals in for the national side

Yeah I have been surprised with Robbie Ure not getting called up when he is one of the top scorers in the top flight of Sweden (wouldn't surprise me if he got bought by a bigger club in January.)

Lawrence got three - one chalked off as own goal. That fella can do the sublime but would also drive you mad as a coach. Score would have been 16-0 if he lifted his head or could play simple pass into striker. Wilson and One must be pulling their hair out. Fine doing it when win 12-0, but needs to make better decisions in tight games. Tait not coming on is hard to understand given the minutes he has enjoyed in the SPL - also ideal time to take off "senior" players for trip to Baku. Was surprised not to see Watson off when Wilson was subbed on 53. Both are so critical to the u21 side. Finlay Curtis didn't come on either which no doubt upset the Gers fans.
Jamboross Posted October 10 Author Posted October 10 Kenny Vargas was an unused sub in Costa Rica's 0-0 draw with Honduras overnight. That result leaves them with an uphill battle to qualify, they sit third after drawing all three games and will likely need to win at least two of their remaining games to at even make the playoffs. Chesnokov and Kenzhebek both start for Kazakhstan at home to Liechtenstein, kicking off now. http://www.fawanews.sc/Kazakhstan vs Liechtenstein.html
Jamboross Posted October 10 Author Posted October 10 Kenzhebek with a quickfire goal (lovely curling finish into the top corner) and assist. Looks a right good player regardless of the opposition.
Footballfirst Posted October 10 Posted October 10 Scotland U19s drew 1-1 with Italy. Alfie Osborne and Matty Gillies started on the bench, but I don't know if they got on.

I'm going to hazard a guess that there will be some significant competition to get his signature but if there is any truth in the previous speculation I hope we are acting very very quickly

Luckies1874 Posted October 11 Posted October 11 Cammy on the bench for Australia for their game against Canada. Kye Rowles getting the absolute run around at left back against Buchanan who plays for Villareal. A lot will depend on the draw but I think Canada might surprise a few people next summer, they have a number of top level individuals.
