Was explaining this to my nephew. The fact I had to explain what I meant showed how long it's been. I actually think it's a rare quality outside the very top of the game, cos it takes a real mix of ability and confidence that is usually reserved for those playing elsewhere. Im very encouraged!

For the older Hearts fans here, he reminds me a bit of Eamonn Bannon during his first spell with us late 70s. He was by no means the finished article then but had the confidence, skill and strength to go box to box.

Watching the highlights on BBC and the commentator immediately pronouncing his name terribly. Not like it's something that can be easily checked or even that the club made a point to highlight when he signed.

Just lazy.

They’ll be pronouncing his name properly soon enough……

Gooooooooooooooll Ageu with South American commentary 🇱🇻

He reminds me of Dembele that used to play for spurs. Controlled touches, rapid, strong, great use of his body. Didn't get to see much of his passing range. Look like one of those really naturally gifted players.

First post, might be last post, coat ready, taxi called - wee song for Ageu:

There's a brimful of Ageu on the 45,

There's a brimful of Ageu on the 45,

There's a brimful of Ageu on the 45,

He's Brazilian,

Cost 2 million,

And he plays for our side.

I know it was a brief cameo but he honestly looks tremendous. He looked like an OF calibre player yesterday, one of those ones where you see them get on the ball against us & go “aww shite don’t let him drive at us”

I watched the highlights with a mate, Rangers fan…he was like “where the *** did you find him, he would slot into a Rangers/Celtic starting line up no problem - even although a small bit of game time, looks the mutts….and that what JTA will do for your team”

Sorry, not taking the piss but, this has been massively promoted by hearts as our new MO for the foreseeable, get used to it.

* yes, the budget is upped to get this player in but, the view is to sell him on in the future for profit (see above paragraph)

Even more exciting is the plan will be to turn him over relatively quickly and bring in 2/3 more of that standard with the profit. Early days but I thought he just oozed class.

It’s obvious how we found him in the first place but it’s pretty remarkable that we’ve persuaded someone of that quality to come here on a ‘Hearts wage’ I presume he’s got a cast iron guarantee we won’t stand in his way when the big clubs come calling

Posted

The absolute standout peice of quality that no other player on the park could produce was when he goes through on the keeper he knows he’s not scoring and has the vision to try and pass the ball to Braga, as it turns out the ball ricochets to Braga and he makes a shop front of it but if that’s what Ageu is bringing to the party then we’re about to see something we’ve not witnessed in a midfielder in a long time.

He can pass, he can handle the ball, he can play in tight areas but if he sees a space he's filling it, he's driving into it with the ball or he's running off the ball.

We'll need to cut that out of his game

The guy looks the real deal. Let’s stay level headed here though. Let’s just remember the first game or two from that RB last season where he looked world class and ended up being honking.

May well have a £££ clause.

If he is as good as he looked he'll be off next summer.

That bursting run to be put through for Bragas chance is something we’ve not seen in so so so long.

He will start against Rangers and will have at least one one-on-one in similar fashion because they play a hilariously high line.

The amount of spellings I have seen for his name on here can certainly age you.

Looks quality - not surprised the club skooshed near £2m on him either based off early impressions.
a reported 30% sell on clause shows that his previous club know he's the business as well and they want a piece of the pie when he moves on

Very early days mind, however early signs look very very positive.
I'm dreaming of a fully fit Beni with his ball recovery compsure & Ageu with his bursting glides through to the final third in a midfield double pivot.... I'm away for a lie down!

He looks like he can take it thankfully. Normally when you sign a flair player you worry about them being up to the physicality but definitely noticeable how Ageu, Braga, Kyzi all look robust and strong. Wonder if it’s something we’ve specifically considered and/or if it is covered as part of the analytics.

Keep seeing Ague, which I’m guessing is how people think it’s pronounced. It’s just the word age with a u on the end though, of all the names to find difficult!

I'm sticking with "Eddie".

Plain & simple. Though, tbh, even I am capable of getting Ageu correct.

I was surprised we paid so much for him considering the stature of his club and the league he has been playing in.

However, I live in Portugal and just had a chat with the local cafe owner who watches a ton of Portuguese football.

He said he has caught his eye every time he has seen him play and he was surprised that he hasn't gone to an English or Spanish Club. He thinks he will be a VERY good player for us.

Im also in Portugal , watch a bit of the local stuff and the first thing you notice is the league is stuffed with Brazilians , despite its poor reputation with just the three big teams scooping up all the trophies, remind you of anywhere , technically the football is excellent and physical , would expect the analytics guys to be all over the players down here.

Relieved to hear DMc saying he just wants him to be a midfielder, no 6s 8s etcs. Think he maybe needs to convince himself more than the rest of us, but at least he sees this as simplified plug and play.

4 2 3 1 with Beni next to him, if Shankland is the shoe in he's the 1, the 3 can be really quite exciting.

Was just thinking how few Brazilians have played in Scottish football outside of the Old Firm, it made me wonder, being the club that taught Brazil how to play football, have Hibs ever had any Brazilians players play for them?

His way of drawing a foul was class too. He looked in total control when he drags the ball away and lets the opposition chop him down. I am really excited to see him play the rest of the season.

There's a great photo in the Evening News that shows him stretching to get his foot round the ball trying to make the pass.

Yes, Ive watched my local team Lusitano at various age groups - the pace and skill of the players is impressive for a small club in a wee town.

Another like braga that I fear falling in love with, anyone that has a good season will be sold, that's the reality but while we can enjoy them while they are in maroon.........they are going to make us dosh!

Interesting Mcinnes saying we aren't paying silly wages but Hearts wages....could that mean part of the purchase price is a lump sum payment to the player?

We've been crying out for a midfielder who can drive forward with the ball and also arrive in the box and get on the end of things, they are a rare species in the game now. Early days but It would great to believe we now have the Brazilian version of the great Colin Cameron in our ranks. Ageu also showed his bravery in his challenge on livi's GK to set up a great chance for Braga. Exciting times Jambos.
