Do you get derby tickets directly through Hibs with no parts of the ground allocated to Hearts?

The more you see the penalty claim, the more apparent it becomes just how bent the officials are in Scottish football. Absolutely ridiculous that not only penalty not given but that red card should have been issued as well to Rangers defender. No attempt to play ball and just barged through Timms

The Glasgow referee "long blink" in full action there.

Hes giving a penalty and red card the other way around and we all know it.

Real shame if the woman's game gets infected by the same refereeing disease the men have had to put up with for decades.

Will the bold Willie have an explanation for this or does he just have excuses for the men’s game?

The club should take issue with the non-award of a blatant penalty given that as victors we can’t be accused of sour grapes.

Alison McConnell: The curious case (and timing) of Eva Olid's Hearts departure

The curious case of Eva Olid's Hearts departure announcement

One cannot imagine the furore had a statement emerged from Tynecastle this week confirming the departure of Derek McInnes at the end of the season.

The Hearts manager has spent the bulk of the campaign leading the charge at the top of the table with a first title since 1960 tantalisingly looming into sharp focus. The finale to the season will be fraught, but whatever the outcome, few could argue that this season has been anything other than a success for the marriage of McInnes and Hearts.

The relationship between Eva Olid and the Tynecastle side seems to have been a little more complex. The timing this week – just days after the club went to the top of the league - regarding the Spaniard’s imminent departure, along with her assistant Pascal Xanthos, seemed utterly bizarre.

Hearts have never won the SWPL. They went to the summit of the table last weekend following defeats of Celtic and Glasgow City across a four-day stretch. They currently have a one-point cushion going into the final furlong of a league that is notoriously competitive until its last kick. As it stands, they have five remaining games to make history.

Olid is said to have told the players that she would be leaving Tynecastle at the end of the season after their victory last Sunday at Petershill against Glasgow City.

It left the club weighing up fears of the news slowly leaking out over the next month, or confirming it. They chose the latter, while insisting that there will be no public interviews with the manager until the curtain has come down on the season.

Olid has been at Hearts for five years. Former Celtic manager Fran Alonso offered a glowing reference when she applied to take over the role vacated by Andy Kirk in 2021, and she has not disappointed.

She has taken Hearts to Hampden for the first time with their Scottish Cup final appearance in 2024, led them to back-to-back fourth-place finishes, their highest positions, in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.

She has also overseen first-ever victories over Glasgow City, Celtic and Rangers as she challenged their hold on the top echelons of the table. Added to that, she went toe-to-toe a Hibs side who have always been regarded as the more dominance force in the capital with a strong history of domestic success.

Olid has overseen the transition towards a more professional structure as the club have offered full-time contracts for the first time. She has improved Hearts in every season that she has been at the club.

But the bottom line in all of this is, inevitably, money. There has not been silverware, even though it was enticingly close.

In a tale as old as time when it comes to the management of football clubs, Olid is said to have wanted to kick on while the club are looking at the bottom line and the slow growth in the women’s game. Budget cuts are imminent at the end of the season.

A raft of first-team players are expected to move. The bulk of their replacements are more likely to come from the club’s academy rather than elsewhere. Olid can comfortably expect to walk into a job given what she has done at Hearts.

It goes without saying that she would like to head out the door with a league title to her name. One wonders if the events of this week undermine that challenge.

Certainly, in what could yet be the season to end all seasons at Tynecastle, the events of this week raised questions as well as eyebrows.

AND ANOTHER THING

Scotland take on Belgium at Easter Road on Tuesday night, the first in a double header that will go a long way in deciding how this campaign shapes up.

Melissa Andreatta’s side will have to go through a play-off route to get to Brazil next summer, even if they top their group, such has been the ramifications of their Nations League relegation.

It was a strong start to their campaign as they swatted Luxembourg aside, but the suspicion is that this double header will prove not only to be a significantly sterner test but will be pivotal in shaping the group.

Attendances have been alarmingly low at recent women’s international games. Andreatta has beseeched fans to come out and support the team the way they would Steve Clarke ’s side.

With the school holidays and lighter nights, Scotland can only hope that there is some encouragement offered to getting bums on seats on Tuesday night.

AND FINALLY

Celtic have not beaten Rangers for 25 months in any competition.

It is a run that now stretches to 11 games. There was never a point on Monday night when they looked as though they were about to change that dismal run.

Insipid, hesitant and tentative against Leanne Crichton’s Rangers, they looked like a team who lacked any conviction that they could win the game.

Katie Wilkinson netted a hat-trick to take Rangers to within a point of league leaders Hearts at the top with the signs all pointing to a photo-finish again this season.

Inevitably, Celtic will refuse to concede that their title chances are gone but there are massive issues for Grant Scott to solve.

The first will be in instilling a sense of belief in a squad that has lost its way since their first ever title win.
