Aberdeen - game we can win but haven't this season, more of a who turns up on the day match. Defeat would probably be more unbearable than it would to the other 2 despite the level of expectation being less than the third option

Celtic - highly unlikely we will win, expectations among the sane will be low, with the caveat we beat them in 2012, and pushed them all the way in 2 finals since, its not impossible. Here's hoping this Pope holds on past the game unlike 2005 which caused some grief. Defeat depends on the manner of it.

Livi or St Johnstone - Game we know we should win expectations through the roof. Defeat would be sore, likely tempered by the fact it would have been Celtic anyway.

Not sure where all this paranoia about drawing Celtic is coming from. Since we beat them in the 2011-12 Scottish Cup Final there have been FOUR Scottish Cup Semi Final draws containing both teams. We have not drawn them in any. So law of averages and all that, we are actually due them! 

 

2018-19 we drew ICT they faced Aberdeen

2019-20 we drew Hibs they faced Aberdeen

2021-22 we drew Hibs they faced Rangers 

2023-24 we drew Rangers they faced Aberdeen

 

If anything Aberdeen have been unlucky in Semi-final draws.

Interesting I didn't think 1 v 2 and 3 v 4 were too likely, however, it would have been in 2024, 2020 and 2019, assuming its been numbers in alphabetical order consistently through the period.

 

Aberdeen draws leading to semis are generous in the extreme, stands to reason they should suffer in the semi, see no reason to change this random equation!

Hasn't occurred since 1996, only one other meeting past this stage ever in 1986.

 

Surely overdue. In fact there were no meetings between the teams in the SC from 1955 to 1985, though there have been a few since we met in 1996, none at the latter stages. Quite a few Q-Fs over time, only one semi and one final in over 120 years, remarkable really.

A quick squint looking back 1 v 4 has happened most often 1 v 3 least, but did occur twice in a row in 17 and 18, both involving Aberdeen, a 3-2 win over Hibs in 17 3-0 loss to Motherwell in 18.

I dont think we can complain too much about unkind draws over the last few years. Since 2022 we have only drawn the Old Firm once before the semi final (Celtic in Quarter finals in 2023). 

 

Incredibly we have only lost 1 out of the last 20 Scottish Cup ties against non Old Firm ties, and that was against Brora Rangers! Ironically that would have been our best chance of winning the competition as both Old Firm teams knocked out before the Semi Final.

In the entire history of Scottish football, Aberdeen and Hearts have only ever met  at Hampden twice, despite both reaching the latter stages of both cup competitions more than most. They met in the 86 final, and the 96 semi. (They have met in a League Cup semi, but it was at Easter Road).

 

Since that 1996 game, Aberdeen have reached 11 Scottish Cup semi-finals and 11 League Cup semis (22 altogether). In that same period, Hearts have made it to nine SC semis and 11 LC semis (20).

 

This is the fifth time they have both been in the Scottish Cup last four at the same time since 1996. They have also been in the LC semis four times together. Yet, on the previous eight occasions, they have managed to avoid each other in both the semi and final.

 

In those same 29 years, Aberdeen have played four semi-finals v Hibs, and they have met Dundee United in four semis (granted, only one of the four were at Hampden). They've had two semis with Rangers at Hampden, and our most popular semi-final meeting is with Celtic where we've met six times - but have actually avoided Celtic in the draw more than we've been paired with them (seven).

 

So is Monday night's draw the first time in 29 years, and just the third time in history, we are paired with Hearts at Hampden?
