If Gordon is still the Scotland #1 at the end of the season, I dont understand why he would retire 12 months out from a potential World Cup?

I think Clarke will bring Gunn back fairly quickly. I don't necessarily agree with it, but Craig's time in the international set up might be short-lived. I don't think he will want to battle away for another season then risk getting bumped from the squad yet again.

Would love to be proven wrong.

What happened to us signing a Brazilian striker? Take it we’re getting big Wesley in the summer? Sure he only signed a one year deal last summer at the Turkish team he signed for 🫣

Not sure there is not a chance.

Player /coach is possible, with Gordon being available if required for a year.

Ofc, would depend if Gordon was interested in coaching and winding down a bit in terms of playing.

He's also got the status to be a pundit.

I think Gordon should retire whilst he is at the top. Stone ro return as back up. As for leavers: Denholm, McKay, Grant freed. Oda and Musa sold. Forrest may move on for a nominal fee.  I think we'll keep Vargas. Shanks will probably leave too. That will clear the decks for another striker, possibly two, two wide players. Penrice may be sold too. Of our defence, I can only see Kent going possibly. I don't think he needs replaced unless Halkett is seriously injured. 7 out and 5 in.

I'm interested to see what we do with big Gerry Taylor. He needs a run in the team. Time to let him start a few games and see what he brings in a more organised team.

Would still take Nicky Devlin if he fancied it.

Deas would be decent too.

Agreed. We might not actually need a RB if he can prove his worth over the coming weeks.

I understand if you can’t name names. Is it a 27 year old Irish centre half who plays for Motherwell?

So Casey.  Hmmm not sure.  If true, it's a "trust the process" one isn't it!!  In theory he's an aggressive defender who carries the ball quite well out of defence.  But in practice I see a guy who is a bit rash and has a mistake in him at all times.  May be unfair as I don't see him often and he's mybe hampered by shite around him

I am the same, its not one that makes me think thats a good signing, but the data mined on him may show that he fits with what we want and show a player who is better than you think, so happy to "trust the process."

I do think the bit in bold is maybe something we have to see as something that Jamestown may excel at. Finding players who may fit well with us but are in a team where the team makes them look worse. As you say he is a bit rash, but that could be him being forced to make rash decisions to try and cover for others. Whereas with us, he maybe in a settled team with players who allow him to play the way he can.

Don't think Cammy would thank you for that suggestion

The only way Taylor should be allowed to stay is another loan but can’t see it.

I really hope we don't move to 3 at the back.

At home we shouldn’t need to play with 2 defensive/sitting midfielders.

why? Becuase he’s had an injury - that can happen to anyone at any time.

We will see how he gets on till end of season but if he replicates his preferences against rangers and Celtic it’s a no brainer.  Some of the best displays from a hearts right back I’ve seen period.

Im confident the ropey displays were down to mis-management.

My guess would be

Clarke no1

New signing 22-25 age bracket that will be no2 for a season before fighting it out with Clarke for the 26/27 season

Gordon no3/Coach (mainly for club grown status in European games)

Fulton and Stone released

I'd say it's more about how he's recovered from the injury, is it something that will slow him long term for example, if we don't see him in a run of 5 or more games before the end of the season then another loan (even 6 months with an optional fee slightly higher than what was agreed for this summer)

With our full backs that type of set up could be quite attacking. The thing I disliked about Robbie’s 3-4-3 (as opposed to that 3-5-2) is we always started with two DM’s which isn’t needed in every game.

I dont see why,  he seems to be like the 4-4-2/4-2-3-1. From all I have read about NC, he is quite pragmatic with formations and the 3-5-2 at Blackpool was used  due to the squad he had when he took over rather than its his preferred formation.

Posted

Where do Spittal and Kartum fit into our 4-2-3-1/4-4-2 formation next season??

Posted

If Casey does arrive it probably spells the end for Halkett or Kent. Potentially both.

Cannot believe Casey would rate well on the analytics.

Indeed, back 5s really aren’t the way forward for most teams never mind those that play on tight pitches.

Dan Casey is a weird one. The Motherwell fans seem quite split on him. Prone to blunders, ideal big old fashioned centre half, prone to being carded, had a massive falling out with Kettlewell, best defender at the club, hatchet man and bombscare all seem to get mentions.

I'm sure one of the ex-pro's said on another thread that this was already signed and sealed.

The analysis must see some kind of unrealised value in him somewhere.

He'd probably be cheap in terms of salary as well.

By most accounts he's got balls, fights for everything and is a savage tackler.

Some of that reminds me of how our late great captain Zal was described, once upon a time. He wasn't always loved by everyone our support; as much as some folk wouldn't like to admit it.

Reading that USG tried to buy Lennon Miller. Wee buy and loan back 🤣

Posted

I think there’s an effort to get guys in that will leave everything on the pitch. Folk like McCart and Milne and I presume Casey fit in with that.  Obviously other criteria at play as well though.

Posted

Think it's a bit early for speculation but if the January window is the standard going forward then summer window could be exciting.

Folk saying Casey is sh*te better phone Jamestown and let them know asap.

Fully on board with every signing from now on.

His name was floated about a while ago so I watched him closely the last time we played Motherwell and thought he did very well. Had a shaky start and made a wee mistake giving the ball away to us early on and I was immediately like "nah"; but he settled in to the game, was really confident driving out of defence with the ball and to attack, which would be refreshing. He's a bit of a pest at corners as well because he'll fight through the crowd to get onto the ball, and often does - at both ends. His only goal this season coming from a corner against us IIRC. At the moment he looks like a replacement for Halkett so wouldn't come in as a starter, maybe 2nd choice at RCB behind Steinweinder?
