I reckon we'll lose Penrice in the summer, hopefully for a decent fee if it happens.

Just think if he continues in the form he is and the max effort we get from him game in game out, we will be powerless to keep him. All IMO of course.

Looks that way. Especially given we've just signed a left back as cover who's highly rated

I think that's what we want, make money then Jamestown will help get in a replacement 👌🏻

If we were to lose Penrice this summer then I reckon we'll be netting a tidy fee for him. He's absolutely unreal but everyone in our team will have a price.

Well yes indeed, as long as who comes in is of equal or better quality right?

Exactly my thinking.

If Jamestown can't find a replacement of equal or better quality,  then they would advise not to accept any bids. Unless the bid is too much to turn down, in that case we could probably afford to buy a left back.

I reckon we've already signed a bunch of players on pre contracts already.

Somebody would have got it out there already, either us, the current clubs or the agents.

Think we might get Shanks on a free contract.

Not necessarily when they are still under contract at their current clubs.

Every January signing has come out beforehand……I don’t see what would be different about any PC signings.

Dhanda was but we didn't announce the signings of Spittal or Penrice  on pre contracts until about the end of March last year.

But I think the players we'll sign won't all necessarily be from the Scotland or, England.

I don’t think we announced any of them until about June but we all knew they were coming.

The signings I was referring to were the recent transfer window signings…….all the names were out there before they signed.

If Penrice is gone, it better be 7 figures. I won't get greedy and say the number shouldn't start with a "1" but it better be a big return or Hearts should extend him and max him out on our wage scale.

I don't Hearts are too far into the pre-contract phase. Limping to sixth versus making it #4, or one spot better, is such a huge difference in the outlook for next season and what we need.

Correct me if I’m wrong but halkett has his contract expiring next summer and Kingsley is the year after? I’d keep them even if they aren’t going to play much they are good at providing cover and I suppose also provide experience within a younger less experienced group.

Like them both but if they could be moved on this summer I would. Injuries waiting to happen, therefore can’t be relied on to be available.

No more dead wood, it’s time to get ruthless if we are serious about building a squad capable of securing 3rd or better.

Our summer signings will show another higher calibre of player than what we are used to I hope. I’d like to see at least 2 or 3 coming in with a bit wow factor. Guys that are extremely mobile and have really good stats on playing a pressing game.

We have looked quicker and hungrier recently as players are now getting proper recovery between games and time to work on playing patterns and results atm are backing that up.

It would have to be an absolute minimum of £2M for Penrice with 2 years left on his deal. That would even feel very low imo.

This. I’m not getting carried away like we all did with Shanks 5m last summer but Penrice is younger with two years left on deal. He’s an excellent player. 2.5m with add ons minimum. He’s class.

It would have to be closer to 2 mil than 1 mil for me to take the call. Sell-ons wouldn't get me excited here since I think he is at his potential of a very good player.

McCart, Penrice, Spittal, Devlin are type of players I'm comfortable forming the long-term core of a team while you bring in fresh talent at other position with the goal of moving them for bigger fees.

Penrice is too old to expect a sell on, however, we shouldn't be too precious about selling, we are likely to find an equivalent for less than what we sell for.

Put it this way, who this time last year would have predicted we would be talking about selling Penners for millions

It is worth noting that by the window, its likely that Tony Bloom has bought a stake in the club with possibly the money from that come into the club.

From all talk around it, it seems Summer is going to be a big window and will be fascinating to see the squad that comes out of it.

I do think we cant take anything for granted at the moment other than the players that have signed in January being there.

Sell Penrice for hopefully £3 million. Hopefully already have his replacements lined up. Getting scotland call up would help.

Depends on lots of things really, out of contract players possibly signing new deals, guys under contract possibly leaving, Gordon retiring etc.

I think we will definitely have a smaller squad with youngsters filling gaps.

If I'm being really brutal I'm not extending any contracts that are due to expire in the summer - so that's Gordon, McKay, Shankland, Grant away. Gordon could possibly hang about as a coach/2nd choice. If Shankland is willing to sign a new deal then I'd listen to what he has to say - but in no way would I be begging him or offering him stupid money to stay. McKay unfortunately is no longer good enough, and Grant never was so I'd be letting them both leave.

Loan players... I'd be looking to trigger the option to buy Kabangu and to get him signed permanently. Early signs suggest he could be a top player for us. Pretty undecided about Taylor and would like to see him in a consistent run of games before deciding on him. So far he's been 50/50 good/shite so I don't know enough about him yet and haven't seen him in the flesh as I wasn't at any of the games he played.

Shopping list right now would be:

Right winger to replace McKay. Has to be a top player who can hit the levels McKay used to.

Right back (AGAIN!) - even if Taylor stays, we need another. Forrester not good enough for me.

Deep-lying CF to replace Shankland - also has to be a top player / marquee signing.

Pacy ST as backup to Kabangu, can be a loan, a young guy,

Replacement for Kent as our main CB, if rumours about him wanting away are true.

Happy to let Grant go. Looking like we already have a replacement in Kartum, so probably don't need to sign anyone.

Would listen to offers for Oda and Vargas, and replace if sold.

New deal for Devlin.

Will be a busy summer.

Because he’s not an international we won’t get as much especially if it’s the old firm so hoping abroad or England for decent money that is if he goes

Could add new LCB. Like McCart,  but if we can get better. McCart would be great backup .

Possibly but the ones highlighted are definitely of greater importance for me, especially if Kent etc stay around.

Considering the speed at which we offloaded Oyegoke and Boateng even that is not guaranteed if we get a decent offer.

For this reason I kind of hope we aren't scooping folk up on pre-contracts.

By the summer we might have the budget through Bloom and European qualification (ever the optimist) to shop in Sainsbury's rather than Aldi for our signings, I don't see much point in committing to players now only to find out in three or four months that there's better available to us.

Obviously if someone is clearly miles ahead of what we have at the moment then we should make enquiries but your Armstrongs etc, players not that much better than what we have, could end up being money wasted.

With Gordon, McKay, Shankland, Grant out of contract, that’s probably a pretty massive chunk of wage bill freed up.

Add that we are likely to move on guys like Oda, Kent and Dhanda and we can probably afford a few very good new recruits.

It's going to be a busy one for sure.

Possible outs (for various reasons)

McKay

Oda

Forrest

Grant

Shankland

Denholm

Tait

Dhanda

Kent

Gordon

Taylor

Kingsley

Devlin

Wilson

Neilson

Vargas

A mix of out of contract guys, youngsters who won't get game time, retirement and transfers for decent fees (hopefully).

Ins

No idea, but it will be a lot!

There’ll likely be 2-3 from our current starting XI who will be in the side next season.

No bad thing tbh. Let Jamestown overhaul this squad.

Gordon to hang up his gloves.

Kingsley

Kent

Grant

McKay

Oda

Forrest, would try and get Halks out sadly as he can’t be relied on.

With 3 coming in. I think we’ll sign in January probably for injury cover.

Yes I think so. We’ve brought in 5, plus all going well Taylor and Hoff will be fully fit for next season or sooner, and Clark in goal.

Clark

Penrice

McCart

Stienwender

Taylor

Devlin

Hoff

Kartum

Spittal

Musa

Kabangu.

Gordon or Fulton

Milne

Neilson?

Forrester

Beni

Dhanda

Vargas

Wilson

Tait*

Pollock*

Shanks*

Halks*

Kingsley*

* possibly still here for next season.

NC talked about reducing the squad, so all those unnamed gone. So 3 more summer signings would still give us 28.

And, of course, because of Penrice’s age (26?), we’d probably get more for him in 2025 than 2026, even if he rips the place up for another 12 months, as he probably will.  When he’s 28, clubs at a higher level are going to be less likely to come calling.  Won’t say it’ll never happen at that age but I wonder if the analytics will say “sell in summer 2025?”
