I'm absolutely

baffled we haven't brought in anyone after McCart and Elon

We've known for months were we need improvements and as usual we are dragging our feet

This is a big game tommorow

We can't just unilaterally go and sign players, we likely have identified several others and are most probably speaking to their clubs but there's a million and one different reasons why things can drag on. Waiting on the selling club bringing in a replacement, waiting on one of our players finalising a deal to free up wages, the players in question weighing up different offers etc etc etc.

We acted early to get players in for two of the most important positions so I'm relatively chill about how the window is going.

Yep, a great example of this was the cup tie v Hibs 2016, big Oz didn’t play because he was heading to China for a million quid. Cost us the game and we all know what happened after that..

Was that the “moneyspinner” game where they beat us in the replay?

I don't understand why you don't get it..?

He might get injured in Sunday which would likely mean that Derry would pull out of the deal, and we would be left with a player who couldn't play!

This is not a new situation - you see this all the time in transfers

Nah, he played just last week and the weeks before that, keeping  him safe from injury doesn't add up.

Never heard that as a reason to push a transfer through.

There’s games to play before the end though. Not really got time to hang about.

There’s two teams involved in a signing and the timing has to be right for both.

Of course, in an ideal scenario we'd have had six players in on January 1st but my initial point was it's not all on us. The club know we need players in quickly and managed to get two in very soon after the window opening. There's a multitude of reasons why other deals might be taking longer and most of them have nothing to do with us yet folk will moan that we're taking too long and dragging our heels when there are multiple parties involved in any transfer.

We could, of course, pull out of any deal that's taking an age to conclude and move down our list of targets but I'd much rather we got who we were after even if it means waiting a week or two longer.

Maybe,  but why, also he is under contract at Hearts so he can't demand it.

A day also  makes no difference.

You are getting very confused over a new player signing a new contract firca new club or an extension and the club holding a player to terms for  their existing contract.

If you can't see the difference then that is your issue tbh.

Good try tho.

The whatts app group says "coming days" so he may not actually leave until next week.

It’s up to the club when a player leaves. Strange timing.

We are still in a precarious position in the league. Win tomorrow and we’re all happy and it’s a great piece of business letting him go. Alternatively…..

The difference probably is that a stiff breeze could put boyce out for 10 months and then we are once again paying him to be injured.  The odds are much less on that happening to rowles.

Boyce out of contract in the summer so worst case scenario is c5 months but get  your point

I guess it’s a balance. For me, folk like Boyce and anyone else in the first team squad stays put until their replacement is in the door. We need the points at the end of the day. Going with, in any game , a weakened squad because we’ve let contracted players leave before they’re replaced just isn’t acceptable to me. Unless we win of course, then it’s fine 🙂

Well, he was involved in the goal..credited with and assist too!

But generally we have looked better with him in the team of late.

The team have improved the last 3 games but Boyce was only decent in 1 of them. He was poor v Motherwell and United.

Their pre season starts on Monday apparently, so probably wanted him for that. No great timing for us though but we'll see how it turns out tomorrow.

Hes fully fit, taking a risk he will last their whole season which is 36 games i imagine, will cost them a bit in wages too.

But i still don’t think it suit us, which should be everyone’s concern.

Never been impressed with Boyce tbh.

Missed far too many easy chances in his career with us but managed to stay for 5 years.

Apparently so, not sure he will last until November when their season ends. Still of no use to us tomorrow.

I’m not in the know but I get the feeling we are wanting more players moved on before we sign anyone else and to me that’s very risky we are not in any position to leave ourselves short. I can see Shankland if he is ( fit) back in the team tomorrow replacing Boyce 🤷‍♂️

Agree Robbo, to some it’s we have lost a loved one.

Boycie was decent for us but ffs we need much better to get us out this relegation battle

hopefully the board as well as the players have the bottle for it

He's a Supermarket Security Guard.

You can see him...he looks like he'd be able to offer assistance.....but when you really need him he's actually unable to do anything.

Stands about a lot and easily pushed out of the way.

Can’t believe so many people can’t grasp the Boyce situation.

He wants to go back to Ireland, I’d take a guess we won’t be getting a transfer fee but the trade off will be he doesn’t get his contract paid up.

Derry want a player that is healthy and Boyce over last few years has seen a fair bit of the treatment table.

If he’d played tomorrow the chances are he wouldn’t have put in a shift as he’d be worried  about getting injured. Anything happened ad we’d have one of our alleged highest earners on the books for another 6 months.

Bottom line is, if Hearts weren’t ok with letting him go, they wouldn’t have.

Timing of the Boyce transfer isn't ideal but when everything is taken into consideration it does make sense.

Boyce wants to go home, we get some transfer money now, probably one of the bigger wages off the wage bill and means we could see spittal or dhanda in a position they are more comfortable in.

A loan signing from down south in the mould of Ellis Simms would also be good.

I personally don't think he was hopeless last week, he maybe wasn't quite as good as he was against Motherwell, but he still played some nice stuff. His passing was pretty accurate, he brought others into the game, and he guided Wilson throughout the time he was on the pitch, all in all he was fairly effective in his role.

All of that said, I am happy to try Dhanda in the number ten position tomorrow, its sink or swim time, and the only way we are going to find out if he can hold his own is by playing him in a run of games in his natural position.

We don’t play a number 10. We play with 2 strikers and one drops a wee bit deeper. We need one of those strikers to have a bit physicality.

Everybody gets the reasoning. My opinion is Boyce would have given 100 percent tomorrow and helped us win

That's semantics, we have a fairly fluid system in attack and our manager even suggested in response to a question about losing Boyce that Spittal, Grant or Dhanda can play the number ten role. So we may not have always played a typical number ten in the role, but we certainly expected the player in that role to provide assists, link play and be creative.

It’s not semantics at all. One of our strikers drops a bit deeper and is almost a target man whilst the other tries to stretch the opposition. Dhanda can’t do either so it would be a change of tactics to play him in a 10 in a 4231. I’m happy enough to go with that and hopefully it works but it’s defo different to how we’ve been playing.
