The U18s lost 2-3 to Motherwell this afternoon, conceding the winner in stoppage time.

Callen Robb had put Hearts ahead in the first half, only for Motherwell to go ahead with two goals in the second half. Josh Radcliffe equalised from the spot, before Motherwell's late winner.

Hearts took off their best players in Gus Stevenson and Matty Gillies immediately after Motherwell equalised on the hour mark. I assume they are being saved for the B Team game v Broxburn on Friday.

There wasn't much between the sides and both squandered good chances to score.  Hearts defence looked vulnerable to balls over the top.  Charlie Sanders was unlucky with one effort that hit the inside of the post.

One bright note was the U18 debut of Keir McMeekin (2010/U15) who got the last 30 minutes.  He did well playing on the left side of midfield, passed the ball neatly and had one attempt at goal blocked. He also picked up a yellow for a tug on a player breaking forward.

We need more of an experienced hand at this level, he's not won any of his six games as interim.

I'd liked to have seen him remain as assistant with an older head at the helm.  It's an important role at the club.

Hearts hit the front! Lovely flick round the corner from Plank to get away from his man before pulling the ball back for Sandilands on the edge of the box, he unselfishly moves the ball on to Ross and he finds the bottom corner! Get in!

Good win tonight. After a decent first half they had to defend much more in the second half as Broxburn upped their intensity and went direct from back to front.

Hearts started brightly and scored with a well worked goal from Mack Ross inside the first 15 minutes.  Hearts were unable to build on the lead and Broxburn gradually got themselves into the game although they only really threatened from set pieces.

In the second half the balance of the game changed and Hearts had to show resilience in defence. Jamie MacDonald made a couple of good stops and Callum Sandilands headed one effort off the line. Hearts were limited to the odd break, but tended to overhit their forward passes, although they were denied by an alert keeper a couple of times late in the game.

Everybody put in a good shift but I though Kai Smutek had his best game for the B Team, winning numerous headers to ease the pressure on the Hearts goal.

It was good to see them get back to winning ways after a barren run. Let's hope they can add a few more to the win column over the next couple of months.

Hearts shaded the first half but second half were under the cosh for a lot of it and defended well to cling on for a much needed win. Broxburn will perhaps feel their second half showing deserved at least a point. An outstanding save from Macdonald early second half set the tone and he came to the rescue on several occasions as Broxburn shelled the ball long. Broxburn keeper also weighed in with a couple of decent stops himself in a few rare attacks.

About time we had a bit of luck and 3 points.

Aye. Normally watch the B team down there but it is nice to watch the younger guys.

I'll probably be there, thanks for mentioning it.   ☺️

I've never watched an unders side, so first time.    Usually reserves/b team.

I'm interested in the quality of talent and team play in comparison to the seniors.   See if I can spot a future star.

Got what they deserved from the game, absolutely nothing.  Second best all over the park. Undone by a team that played with a good tempo and worked the ball forward at every opportunity.

By contrast, Hearts overplayed the ball in their own third and were unable to move the ball forward to their front pair.

It says a lot in a 3-0 defeat that Hearts best player was goalkeeper Lyndon Tas.

Totally agree @Footballfirst, probably the worst performance I have seen from this Team. Was actually shocked. It looked as if the vast majority choked on the big occasion. I would give pass marks to Tas, Gillies and Wilson. Tas made some good saves and kept the score down. Not sure he could do anything about any of the goals as was under siege most of the match. The surprise was it took 44mins for the first goal to come. Gillies I thought worked hard and was industrious, and was Hearts second best player. I felt sorry for him as no support from the rest of the midfield who largely missing for the majority of the match. Wilson asked to stay up front, and after a few early touches close to the St Mirren box, not sure he touched the ball again for rest of first half such was the inability for anyone to pass and play forward. Haaland could have played last night and would not have impacted the game. Had a few more touches second half when moved to the 10 role in the second half.

Unfair to say too much about others given how bad they were. The current B Team players are safe for now as few u18s are making the jump up. Indeed, likely a few 2009s will see a chance to cement themselves (some post injury) more in the u18 side, Dow /  Dickov / Wilson(s) / Walker, never mind KM being fast tracked. How I wished the intelligence of KM was on show, or the midfield energy of SW in midfield to help Gillies. Neither would have changed the result such was St Mirren dominance. No doubt huge food for thought for coaches this morning in the de-brief.

A horror show from almost start to finish. Credit to St Mirren who were at it from start to finish.

Their shape didn't make sense with Euan Banks all too often finding himself in the left back position with Josh Radcliffe still outside him. It left gaps and a lack of options in midfield with Matty Gillies outnumbered. I don't think they get the best out of Gus Stevenson either when playing him wide left.  It's pointless having James Wilson staying up front when there is no one capable of playing a telling pass. He did have the pace to beat his marker, as he showed a couple of times in the first half.

Totally agree. You should write match reports!! Stevenson has so much attacking intent to his game but must be better with his final ball leaves a lot to be desired.

At long last the SFA has published tables for each of their CAS competitions that involve leagues or group stages.

https://www.scottishfa.co.uk/performance/club-academy-scotland/club-academy-scotland-league-tables/

As a caveat, the CAS League Cups are shown as a single league although games are played via a group stage. Qualification for the semi final stages will be the top two in each regional group. Note that the CAS League Cup at U15, is contested between U15 sides from the elite academies and U16 sides from other academies.

Hearts strike first! McLuckie is in acres of space down the right wing. He does the right thing by unselfishly rolling the ball across for Mack Ross, who takes a touch to compose himself before firing past Antell!

Great goal from the Wee Jambos! They play themselves out of pressure with McLuckie finding Sandilands and the skipper slides in Plank, who takes it round Antell and slots home into the empty net!

So nearly number 3! Great run in behind from Duncan, he looks to lob Antell, but the stopper gets a great touch on it to tip it onto the bar and behind for a corner.

40' | BRFC 0-2 HMFC

How did that stay out! Brilliant pressing from Smith to chase down a lost cause, his block sees the ball rebound into the path of Plank, his effort is saved before Ross' rebound is cleared off the line.

Big save from Jack Lyon as a Berwick player once again makes first contact from a set piece and heads at goal, but the stopper gets two hands up to palm the ball away from goal.

82' | BRFC 1-2 HMFC

Another big save from Jack Lyon as Mohammed latches on to a ball in behind, he looks to catch out Lyon at the front post but it's a strong hand to turn it behind for a corner.

Great first half where we really should have been 3 or 4 ahead, breaking the Berwick backline at will, but nearly lived to regret not pushing home that advantage in the second half as Berwick dominated, got one back from a corner, but the defence held out with a couple of good saves from Lyons and some last ditch defending saw us take all 3 points.

How far would people who watch the B team is the likes of McLuckie and Sandilands are off getting near the first team?
