bringonthesevco Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 I have a slightly different take on the let him run down his contract as his goals will be worth 5-6m again for us this coming season. our management aren’t stupid , they’ve been planning for life without shanks for a long time , we’ll have a plan to replace those goals and still get the 5-6m reward, yes it’s a risk as we don’t know what the plan is but equally you could argue it’s more of a risk being reliant on 1 player. if he’s not going to sign a new contract, I’d look to sell him now - sign a replacement and get the next 3-4 years out of his replacement . Goals coming from replacement , Vargas, Tagawa, spittal, Dhanda etc fwiw - my preference is absolutely for him to sign a new contract fwiw - I’d go for Theo Bair as the replacement but accept we all have different views on this one !!!

I have spoken to friends and acquaintances who unfortunately for them support other clubs. In all honesty it was split about fifty-fifty in terms of whether Clarke should continue and what I found more gobsmacking, whether Shankland should have started the games in Germany. People saying things like Adams was played because he holds up the ball and apparently has the ability to stretch defences. I honestly didn't see him do either of those things. Whilst Shanks may not be as fast as Adams, his movement is fabulous and I would argue that is what stretches defences, not blistering pace in isolation. Shanks from what I have seen is far better at holding the ball up and is also really good at bringing midfielders into the game further up the pitch. The most annoying slight and excuse used for not starting Shanks was that he was just a penalty box striker and this was from the mouth of a Hibs acquaintance, clearly hasn't watched Shanks closely enough during derby games! Bit of an aside, but because of how badly treated our captain has been, I'm pretty much done with Scotland until Clarke is emptied, which I predict will happen sometime around November this year. Those guys don't watch Shankland and are all in denial, you know that, so don't worry pal

That’s means the remaining £9-10m pays for the remaining 255 employees plus the 120 part time matchday staff. A bit of a stretch to believe that.

If Shankland signs a pre contract for any club I would expect him to perform to the best of his abilities until he leaves. I'm certain Shankland would be a pro, same as Souttar and same as Spittal, Dhanda, or Craig Halkett when Hearts got him on a pre while he was Livi's captain. I just personally don't want to deal with it as a selfish supporter.

On 05/07/2024 at 09:32, We_are_the_Hearts said: Eh? We need players/captains who want to do really well here and are ambitious to play at the highest level possible no? That was a bit in jest. And even after his hot start we didn't know Shankland would keep it up and be a modern legend after his Hearts start. Critiquing my own post, I don't know who on the club would even fall under that "think their level is above Hearts" point I made. Cochrane maybe? Someone like Kent would be perfect. Already had experience playing in England, meaning he won't get an itch to prove himself. Good player, still seems Hearts is his level. It's not impossible he could up his game and be a target for even bigger clubs than Hearts, but at this stage of his career it would be a surprise. Devlin makes sense to should his contract be extended. Admittedly, I've never been in a dressing room with any of these guys. I have no idea which player is actually respected versus who is a great interview but a total behind closed doors. Edited July 6, 2024 by Smithian

No Idle Talk Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 Does anyone of my vintage(watching Hearts since the 80s), or older, not have this guy in their top 10 favourite Hearts players? He's so good. I'm annoyed and sad for him the way he was treated at the Euros. I hope he uses that injustice to fuel him this season and he rams another 30 goals in. Totally embarrass Steve Clarke. He's definitely in my favourite top 10 ever. So are Craig Gordon and Stephen Kingsley. Three players in our current squad in my top ten ever. I think that speaks very well of the team we have right now. I am buzzing for the new season. Can't wait to get started.

He will certainly be a candidate but it’s a big pool. Robbo, Mackay, Cameron, Skacel, Gordon, Levein, Naysmith, and thats right off the top of my head.

ManxandCapeTownJambo Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 My top 10 favourites Henry Cruikie Fordy Willie Gibson JC Robbo Rudi Paul Hartley Shanks Bobby Prentice but plenty of others would make the list on another day 10 isn’t enough really
joondalupjambo Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 The Rangers will sell Dessers, claiming they got 5m for him to keep ra Peepil happy. They will then offer Hearts 1m for Shankland, then 1.5m as a final bid and on both counts will be told to ram it. Shanks will then sign a new contract. It is written in the stars. He will then go on to become one of Hearts greats.

But then there's guys like Levein and neil McCann just for 1996 LC final, hmmmm I give up.

thegreatsd Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 I don’t think anyone knows what will happen with Shanks, even the man himself. I would be tempted to keep him for next season regardless of whether he signs a new deal with us or not. Hopefully he decides to pen a new deal and cement himself as a great for us. If he goes elsewhere at the end of his current deal, I do believe come the end of his career we will have seen the the very best of him in maroon. Who knows how it will turn out though! Plenty to stay for with the European football, very decent wage, records to break and legendary status with our wonderful club. 👍🇱🇻
