Burns Night

Commander Harris

just wondered if anyone else was doing something for Burns Night? Do others still mark this day?

I'll be heading to a Burns Supper at a friend's but it's just an excuse for another party to be honest as I'm not too fussed about celebrating Robert Burns.

I've got off lightly thankfully, no addressing the haggis or toasting the lasses for me, the selkirk grace is my only responsibility and I'm sure I can cope with that! Although I might fancy a wee sing song later on in the evening. :)

anyone else up to anything?

Captain Canada

Going out for scran tonight - not specifically for Burns Night but hopefully there will be haggis on the menu. One of my mates got roped into doing the immortal memory speech at a works do by his boss. He's never written a speech in his puff, so he paid someone to write it for him. Unique Speeches I think it was.

I am off to a Conservative party Burns Supper. It will be a good laugh. There are 3 Conservative ones in Edinburgh tonight. They take it being pretty serious with Burns having been a Tory.

LOL - you are having a laugh!!!!

The Soviet Union immortalised Burns by way of commerative stamps 50 years before the Royal Mail decided to!

Burns was a proto-socialist!

made my first ever burns supper myself (left home for uni 2 years ago and didn't bother last year) and it was delish. Buggered up the tatties though, so overcooked they were premashed in the pan! tasted great with a bit of butter mixed in.

There were selling haggies pies in Greggs this week, never got one though, imagine they'd be fairly tastey!

they sure are - not had a greggs one but the burds maw makes them, basically just cottage pie with haggis rather than mince :D Greggs were doing them for St Andrews day as well

Why does he have a ward named after him at the hospital?

There is a whole residential area named after him and his life!

I was going to experiment with haggis stovies but was too hungry to muck around so i had a huge steak instead. It was Scottish beef though.
