For those disgusted with the selection pre match, this 55 minutes may be the best result possible. Shanks hasn't even had to do anything today to have had an even better international break in comparison. This is exactly why Clarke needed to look at him however! 

 

The longer this goes the better it is set up for Shanks again!

True he’s done nothing wrong but he’s also done nothing of note. Can he make big saves at international level? Nobody knows. 
 

In my hypothetical scenario CG returns and is quickly back to his best. Anyone who has Gunn over an in form Gordon needs to give their head a wobble. Clarke did chose Marshall over him though so you never know.

During the pre match interview Clarke never even acknowledged Shanks as an option.

 

He only talked about having Brown start and Dykes as an option because he runs himself into the ground.
