The European games start tonight with the Champions Cup kicking off with Glasgow at Sale at 8pm. Edinburgh have a tough game at home against Toulon on Sunday at 5.10pm. Difficult to see either Glasgow or Edinburgh making much of an impression on the tournament this year although clearly a Glasgow team, if on form, should have the better chance of making the knockout stages.

Teams for Sale-Glasgow:

Sale: Reed; O'Flaherty, Ma'asi-White, Louw, Wills; Du Preez, Quirke; McIntyre, Jibulu, John, Burrow, Bamber, Vermeulen, Van Rhyn, T Curry.

Replacements: Caine, Onasanya, Harper, Andrews, B Curry, Warr, Davies, Wehr.

Glasgow: McKay; Steyn, McDowall, Tuipulotu, Smith; Hastings, Horne; McBeth, Hiddleston, Z Fagerson, Williamson, Cummings, M Fagerson, Darge, Dempsey.

Replacements: Stephen, Sutherland, Talakai, Samuel, Brown, Miller, Dobie, Lancaster

Glasgow on top now against Sale, after going down 14-0 in the first half. Now 19-14 to Glasgow after two 1st half tries and an early 2nd half try, plus have the wind behind them in the 2nd half, so momentum definitely with them.

FFS Sale🤦🤬

Sale's line out just broke down at the crunch time allowing Glasgow to win.

Both teams need to improve to test the big clubs

Switched on and Edinburgh 18-17 up. Sill in first half but attack looks decent

33-20  bonus points win for Edinburgh. Didn't see that one coming. No idea if French were at full strength but who cares as that's a great win in shitty conditions

A game of two halves Indeed as Glasgow stun Toulouse. Didn't see too much as watching Hearts but I'd imagine these conditions wouldn't be pleasant to play rugby in.

A lot of 2nd string players in Edinburgh side that's just kicked off against Castre in France today, with many of the top players being rested.

Shame, as would have fancied them getting a 2nd win in the Champions Cup against a team that isn't as good as the Toulon team that Edinburgh beat last week. Still might of course.

Edinburgh: Brown, McCann, Currie, O'Conor, Wells, Scott, Vellacott; Venter, Morris, Blyth-Lafferty, Hunter-Hill, Young, McConnell, Douglas, Dodd.

Replacements: Ashman, Jones, Hill, Boyle, Watson, Shiel, Lang, Goosen

Edinburgh 5-0 down currently.

Now 12-0 why on earth has the coach rested so many starters?

No idea. There's no reason to rest quite so many. Just about the whole 1st XV rested, when he could have rested some but still put out a decent side. As it is, Castre don't look up to much but Edinburgh just can't take advantage.

Never mind, at least Edinburgh will have most of their big names back....just in time to lose to Glasgow in the 1872 Cup

19-0 now. Don't know what the final score will be, but I'd put money on it being "Edinburgh nil"

This coach really is a clown. It's 33-0 now.

I'll leave it to the coach to explain playing a B team against a team who were beatable if the A team had played.

Looks like a ridiculous decision from outside the camp.

End of season I'd guess. He can't get a new contract, he simply can't

Should have been gone at least a year ago. SRU being cheap and waiting for his contract to run out IMO.

Big game v the weejies tomorrow. All the big guns back but I think they'll have just a bit too much for us. Close game though I think.

A defeat for Edinburgh will just compound the selection fiasco from last week so I'll predict a thumping loss and a coach looking more clueless than even he has previously managed

Different competition so not really related. Probably wanted to prioritise the UrC over Champs Cup. Still made a mess of last week though. Too many changes.

I know it's a different competition and coach has clearly prioritised URC over Europe and Glasgow game over last week's debacle.

I just think it will do him no good as Edinburgh will lose v Glasgow and he has lost 2 games whereas he could have won last week and played same guys again.

We will find out soon enough

Edinburgh get nothing out of game v Glasgow going down 24-12. Well worth resting a complete team week before in a winnable game to ensure return of 0 points from 2 games.

Great thinking from a guy who is so clever he has fooled everyone into believing he is actually a rugby coach.

Again Edinburgh were unable to punch over on the occasions they were on their line. Worryingly though I thought Darcy and Duhan looked a bit uninterested which for Darcy is very strange indeed.

I've thought that for a while with DVDM, but that's new for Darcy who looked frustrated yesterday I thought. I'm not surprised though, they must be sick of barely seeing the ball come out to them and just chasing scrum-half box kicks most of the game. Especially when they see the Glasgow backs so heavily involved every game.

The sooner they get rid of Everitt and get someone else in the better, before the likes of Darcy and Van Der Merwe decide they'd rather be playing somewhere else.

Round two this afternoon. Hopefully Edinburgh can sneak a win.

Terrible game, and it confirmed that Glasgow are still light years ahead of Edinburgh at the moment.

I don't know why Hollie Davidson blew for the end of the game after just indicating a penalty to Glasgow shortly before that. There had been no advantage, and you could see the Glasgow players were annoyed when she blew for time up as the ball went out of play. They, rightly, thought they had a good chance of getting the try bonus point.

As predicted earlier this week, and it wasn't a difficult prediction to make, a comfortable win for Glasgow over a terrible Edinburgh. The Edinburgh axis at 9 + 10 are just not good enough for professional rugby. It sounds harsh, they are pretty inexperienced, but they haven't learnt anything from playing this season and make the same mistakes every time the are on the pitch.

As a result, backs have zero chance if making inroads and if the do, forwards **** up whatever possession they get. Gilchrist trying to pass or run with the ball is something you can barely comprehend as he, for an experienced international, is just awful.

As for the coach, he's taken the momentum of a win in Europe and managed to destroy it completely which is some achievement.

Glasgow were okay, but okay is good enough against Edinburgh

Another insipid and awful performance from Edinburgh. I don't think the players are giving their all for this idiot of a coach and in some respects I don't blame them. Edinburgh 10 clearly thinks he's Finn Russell and the scrum half is weak as well. Not sure how Glasgow has managed to procure so many better players than Edinburgh although I'm not sure how it all works and how much input if any the SRU have in it all.

Another week of Jekyll and Hyde Edinburgh. After the horror shows against Glasgow, their good side has shown up, so far, against Benetton in Treviso. Up 15-0 after 50 minutes against a team they haven't beaten for 8 years in Italy.

Still time for Mr Hyde to turn up again though...

Within 5 minutes of typing that out, it's now back to 15-14 after 2 Benetton tries

Edinburgh hang on for the 15-14 win. Good result to win away to Benetton who had won 4 in a row (home and away against Zebre and 2 Challenge Cup wins)...although you expect they'll be back to playing terrible and losing next week at home to Gloucester as that's what they do.

Hanging on at the end to get the win at least showed some spirit. The amount of possession we give away with needless box kicking is shocking but this time Edinburgh got away with it.

Edinburgh at home to Gloucester tonight in the Champions Cup. 8pm kick-off on Premier Sports 1.

Edinburgh need to get a 5 point win if they're going to have any chance of making the knockouts, with Bath away their only remaining game after tonight. Which makes it all the more galling that they basically passed on a chance of getting points away to Castres in the last round.

You'd think they would beat Gloucester seeing as they're 2nd bottom of the Premiership down south, but this is Edinburgh we're talking about, so who knows which version of the team will show up...

Incidentally if you are on Virgin TV all rugby on Premier Sports is free now. Generally a sign of a Sports channel in trouble if they start giving away product for free.

I can't wait until this utter waste of space of a head coach gets his jotters. He's no clue how to get the best out the players.
