Player ratings vs Dundee United

Couldn't make today's game and interested to find out how everyone rated. Read the match thread etc, and didn't see much about how Forrest and Cochrane performed.

What's the verdict?

Boyce was poor today. He looked a couple of yards off of it and was rightly taken off.

Other than that I don’t think anyone was below a 7.

Rowles 9 - stopped a certain goal, has a range of passes and overall very steady

Shankland 8 - I didn't appreciate how hard he works. He must be creating a lot of the space for others

Devlin 6 - credit for playing 90 minutes but needs to improve his passing. Put us in trouble a few times.

Overall an 8 out of ten which is an improvement from last season where I rated Hearts overall 6 out of 10.

They all done well, although Boyce wasn’t brilliant. 8s all round with 9;s for Shankland, Halkett, Smith, Rowles and McKay.

Devlin started slowly, signs he hasn’t played as much football but thought he was back to his best in second half.

Smith was back to his best, really good performance capped with his nutmegs.

Mackay was sublime, his range of passing and acceleration to take us forward is crucial.

Shankland maybe only had one chance and scored, could see him getting 3 or 4 in a game if the service is right.

The negative was Boyce. Slowed down so many attacks, touch and passing was awful. Also had a frustrating moment where he got in the way as Forrest was running toward goal, so the football brain isn’t on either.

All round though great team performance, looked like we could have stepped up a gear if required.

I thought Devlin was poor. He runs about a lot and wins tackles, which is great, but he can’t pass a ball 5 yards and slows play down.

Everyone else was pretty good. Smith and Rowles were pick of the bunch for me. Boyce was hot and cold.

Gordon 7 two good saves

Smith 8 back to his best

Halkett 7 solid

Rowles 9 immense

Cochrane 7 he was good again

Devlin 7 did well, probably not 100% yet

Grant 8 he's a great footballer btw

Forrest 6 was a bit unlucky

Boyce 5 not his day

McKay 9 different gravy

Shankland 8 lethal finish and worked hard for the team

GMS 6 did well, never a pen

Kingsley 4

Haring 4

Halliday 4

Gino 7 that's what we need to see all the time.

I honestly thought Boyce was like an extra man for them.  I don't know what's happened to him,  don't think I've ever seen a player go so far downhill.

He assisted for Shankland.

If an assist by bursting into the box in the first minute is deemed a slow starting, poor passing midfielder then can we have another one please?

He did so that must be one pass he completed all game.

Boyce just runs non stop, always chasing wonder if he need to not overdo it as usually a poor first touch at this level is down to fatigue mental and physical. But you would like to think the players are in good condition.

That's also incorrect.

All our players first half made a lot of misplaced passes. Devlin was no different and improved second half.

Completely unfair to Cammy. Made some slack passes but probably through rustiness. His overall contribution today was very good.

Boyce had an absolute mare today. Folk saying they don't know what has happened to him etc...he was brilliant in the Derby. One of those days today but not once did he hide.

Gordon 7.5 - Some decent saves, unlucky to concede - kicking still shite

Smith - 8 - Took the absolute piss out of Watt

Cochrane - 7 - Did fine

Halkett - 8 - Strolled

Rowles - 8 - See Halkett

Devlin - 7 off the ball, 5 on

Grant - 7 - Like him but no attacking midfielder gets above 7.5 for the first half

McKay - 7.5 - Cracking goal, Deducted for first half

Shankland - 8 - so impressed as to what else he does less score

Boyce - 4 - played like a drunk guy. I like him but that was disgraceful today

Forrest - 6. Not his best game

Subs:

Haring - 5 - Settled us down

Mackay-Steven - 5 - ran the ball when needed. Never a pen.

Kingsley - N/A

Ginnelly - 5 - Great option from the bench

Halliday - N/A

he was unlucky. Had a lot of balls played to him at speed and was unfortunate.  He is a vital cog in our wheel

Devlin just pips Shankland to MOM on Whoscored.com. Rowles not far behind with McKay.

Comprehensive bottom three are Cochrane, Boyce and Forrest.

Not sure what part is incorrect. He definitely improved second half but he couldn’t have got much worse.

good corrections…..and spot on re Devlin, worst I’ve seen him today, looks shot of confidence, will give him the benefit and put it down to coming back from injury, but not looking himself.

and I have Rowles as great ‘stopper’ I think his distribution could improve …

He’s becoming the weak link in the team. Really needs to up his touch & speed of thought or he might find himself sitting on the bench most weeks.

Sorry mate but think you are wrong.

His energy breaking up numerous Dundee United attacks was significant.  His passing was as good as anyone today and he played his position very well.

1. Not being able to make a 5 yard pass (he assisted Shankland's goal)

2. That assist being the only successful pass he made (it clearly wasn't)

Everyone deserves at least a 7 from what I just watched back on Hearts TV. Btw what a goal from wee Baz McKay!! Boys turning into some player for us.

No denying that he was well off it today but he’s nowhere near as bad as some of our support make out. Thought he was very good at ER last week

I thought Gordon was worth more than a 7. Great save which could have been 3-2 and a nervy last few minutes.

Gordon 7 Flapped at a cross but otherwise safe as houses

Smith 8 His best game for a year

Halkett 8 excellent throughout

Rowles 7 settling well

Cochrane 7 another good solid performance

Devlin 7. Busied up the midfield. Improves us

Grant 8 better looking further forward. Great second half

Mackay 8 superb goal and a really good game

Boyce 5. Weak link today. Nothing came off. Poor first touch at least 6 times in good positions

Forrest 6 hot and cold sort of game. Not up to speed yet

Shankland 9 MOTM. Such a difference to have a good front man who knows what he is doing.

Subs - nothing that stood out but nothing bad either 3 points each.

No problem, mate, just shows how we all see things differently. Mind you, I do wonder about a stats system that gives United an overall rating of 6.70, a gnat's chuff behind the 6.75 given to a Hearts side that's just comprehensively tubbed them.

Most were 7 or 8 today. We outplayed Utd pretty easily. However Boyce really needs to up his game. He’s not contributing much at all right now. Loses the ball far too simply and is no goal threat at all. If he ain’t a striker he needs to be setting up chances for others and he’s not doing that.

Top tier players: Halkett, Shankland, McKay, they could all share the MotM as far as I'm concerned.

Just below: Smith, Gordon (two good saves, swerving low one in 1st, acrobatic flick away 2nd)

Solid (mainly): Rowles (not seeing the love this week, still too prone to giving the ball away under not that much pressure, its an odd one), Devlin (great energy), Grant (better when Haring came on and wasn't overrun due to Boyce)

Fine (mainly): Cochrane, Forrest

Bottom tier: Boyce, he looked jaded after 10mins
