Did we not have a free pre season game at the start of the Vlad era?

Yeah.  It was effectively a trial game

Was thinking about making the trip to methil on Tuesday (v East Fife). Long shot but does anyone know if there’s any supporters club buses running from Edinburgh. I was also looking at getting the x61 through but think the last bus back to Edinburgh is before full time and don’t think there’s a train either. Any advice would be most welcomed? Excluding don’t bother 😂👍🇱🇻

Yeah the last direct bus from Leven is 9:30pm

You can jump on a number 7 from Leven bus station at 10:05pm and get off at Kirkcaldy bus station (though maybe best getting off at Adam Smith Theatre as it is closer to the train station). Should get in about 10:45pm.

Then there is a train back to Edinburgh at 11pm, which will take about 45mins as it'll stop everywhere! If the trains run, obviously.

* I meant to add...don't bother 😁

So where’s the big first team game on the 16th of July? Somebody posted at Stoke City, was that wishful thinking or based on fact??

A bit more notice of the Bonnyrigg game would’ve been nice.

Indeed. The away support have to organise their travel. 😉

Selfishly I will need to go in on my holidays and redo a rota for a game that should’ve been organised weeks ago, 10 days notice for a home game that has 5k tickets on sale is extremely poor planning.

I’m abroad so miss it anyway. Hoping to catch the Preston game though.

I remember being on holiday in Spain and missing that game. Season ticket holders literally got free tickets posted out so of course I arrived back to it sitting on the doormat 😨 probably the only pre-season friendly I was gutted to miss.

Missed seeing Skacel etc for the first time.

Decent Middlesbrough side aswell:

I missed it for exactly the same reason. A bunch of top level triallists played for us iirc

We certainly did - v Middlesbrough and there was a full house. Given more recent pre season home crowds, it would be a surprise if more than 2,000 turn up to see Bonnyrigg.

As a part owner in Heart of Midlothian, I don't want my club giving away freebies. It's been done before by previous owners and we all know where their financial management took the club.

Those of us that love Hearts will gladly pay the price of a couple of city centre pints to watch our team.:P

In latest video from Spain Craig Gordon says pre-season friendlies partly designed to get team used to playing twice a week.

Gap in the schedule unless first teamers let loose on Dunbar. Maybe another game in the offing?

A few might get a run out at Spartans since we've two games same night.

B Team's first league game on 23rd so Linlithgow must be first team though not listed on Hearts site.

First Team

June 30 - Europa FC in Malaga

July 5 - East Fife in Methil

July 9 - Bonnyrigg Rose at Tynecastle

July 13 -  Tranmere Rovers in Birkenhead

July 20 - Preston North End in Preston

July 23 - Linlithgow Rose in Linlithgow

B Team

July 2 - Whitehill Welfare in Rosewell

July 6 - Spartans in Pilton & Vale of Leithen in Innerleithen

July 16 - Dunbar United in Dunbar

July 23 - Berwick Rangers at Ferguson Park (Lowland League)

Final update from me - most of the info on club site now anyway.

I'd expect the first team squad to split in two for the East Fife and Spartans games on successive nights with the B team/U18s fulfilling the VoL fixture.

The first team did a similar split at the start of last season when Hearts played Civil Service Strollers and Spartans on the same night.

Going into Europe this season I'd have liked to see us play one or two teams of a higher ilk who'll really test us. Preston is the hardest team we face in pre-season and even that's not a huge challenge.

Preston probably have a better team than us given the financial differences, but will be an interesting test.  Most bigger clubs are locked into silly contracts for pre season.

Corrected as Hearts have confirmed Spartans will be a first team friendly.

Also say more friendlies will be announced so that gap on Saturday 16th July may still be filled.

So Hearts now face the prospect of fielding three teams on 23rd July (Stoke, Berwick, Linlithgow).

May end up being 1st team, B team and Reserves/U18s respectively.
