Victorian
Ffs. Not a particular DM fan but they were undoubtedly in the vanguard of the electronica new romantics. One of the best of the era.

CF11JamTart
Love that band. Lost count of the number of times I've seen them. Jeezo, that has knocked me sideways. And yeah... I'd thought that Dave would be the first to go.
Midloth_Iain
Gutted - saw them in Munich 2017, one of the best gigs I have ever been to. RIP Fletch Edited May 26, 2022 by Midloth_Iain
JudyJudyJudy
Another toothpick. What's happening ? Thats all we are hearing just now. Relatively youngish people dying. God bless him. May he rest in peace. One of my favourite bands too.
Morgan
This is sad for my wife and I. I’m slightly joking here but, he obviously just couldn’t get enough. RIP Sir, you were part of our youth, music wise.
Costanza
Shocked by this, only 60 FFS. He might not have contributed a lot to the songwriting but he was the glue that kept the band together and stopped them splitting up.

Funny thing is the group where probably at their best around this time even though all the drink and drugs they took back then

RIP Andy I feel the same way about 101. Defo my favourite live album. Some days it's my favourite album. The tour that really kicked them in to big time. I think it started off at Whitley Bay ice rink or Newport leisure centre and finished at the Pasadena Rose Bowl. It's spine-tingling to hear the singalong at the end of Everything Counts. I only started seeing them on the Devotional Tour. Sheffield 93. That was a cracking gig. Dave in full Rock / Goth God mode.
CF11JamTart
Would love them to tour again. And to take wee daughter to see them. But, unless they muster for a last hurrah, i can't see it happening. They aren't getting any younger, there was the covid hiatus to their 4 year album cycle, Dave's got his stuff with soulsavers and now Fletch has passed away. There has been some good stuff since then but they've not got back to those heights since Alan Wilder left.

I'm going to try looking out the performance I think I saw. At the time I kind of saw them as poppy chart stuff. And then I saw them on the tube doing as you both describe. Repeating myself but just a truly great band .

I dont see how they could tour again, without Fletch. I suppose there are probably enough talented 'fan musicians' who could step in but it just wouldnt be the same. Who knows ..... Which makes me feel lucky enough to have seen them in 2017. For the 1st time since Edinburgh Playhouse in 1984/85.

Saw DM during the Music for the Masses tour (the tour which ended with the "101" concert at the Rose Bowl).

Yup. Most of Fletch's on-stage activity for the past couple of decades was standing and occasionally waving at people. Christian Eigner (drums) and Peter Gordon (keys, and bass) have been long term "live band". Still, Fletch's value to the band wasn't his musical contribution.
