Never let your work get in the way of spending time with your children. They're only young for a wee while. I've had jobs that were a challenge to my free time, but I always spent as much time as I could with my boys. Bonding sessions watching Hearts being the number one priority. I'd have hated to be like the man in that song. That would be another of mine. That and Father & Son by Cat Stevens; not the version that got mangled by WestZone. JudyJudyJudy
This really is a beautiful song with a full tragic story in it. Struggle to listen to it at times as reminds me of someone close who this song could have easily been written about. Sadly died of an addiction. Салатные палочки
Both written by Phil Coulter. But no better person to sing them than Luke Kelly. This one is particularly sad as Coulter wrote it about his own experiences with his son who was down syndrome.

Malinga the Swinga
Very difficult. Fire Away by Chris Stapleton. I'm not a country lover, but this one is different. Hurt is a classic, by either Cash (my choice) or Nine Inch Nails. As an outsider, Monsters by James Blunt or Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinead O'Connor. Benzinho
Slightly unusual one here, but Skywest and Crooked by Carter USM, particularly for the spoken word part at the end by Ian Dury doing the bit from The Man of La Mancha. Gets me every time. "I have lived almost 50 years, and I've seen life as it is. Pain, misery, hunger, cruelty beyond belief. I've heard the singing in the taverns, and the moans from bundles of filth in the street. I've been a soldier, and watched my comrades fall in battle, or die more slowly under the lash in Africa. I've held them in my arms at the final moment. These were men who saw life as it is, yet they died despairing. No glory, no gallant last words, only their eyes filled with confusion, whimpering the question... "Why?" I do not think they asked why they were dying, but why they had ever lived" Also, been mentioned already, but Johnny Cash's version of Hurt never fails to bring a tear to the eye. Statts1976uk
For me it's James and Coming Home Pt 2. It's about how much he misses his son as he has to go record and tour away from home for weeks. When it was released I was a bit down as I had been working away from home for a fair while and it just reassured me I wasn't the only one. The upside was that the day it was released I got a job offer much closer to home and could see the end in sight. I was a bit sad and tweeted the lead singer Tim Booth not expecting a reply but I got a really lovely message back.
