Feck all about music this year, then.

If it was, half of the failed semi finalists would be here and most of the dross on offer tonight wouldn't be.

The difference between the Jury and the Public really exposes the political stuff (which is all the Jury votes).

Shouldn't the Ukrainian lads be conscripted anyway?🤔

They were given permission to travel for Eurovision by the President himself.

One of the band chose to stay behind and fight.

Irish and UK public votes give 12 votes to Ukraine.  If my sums are right, Ukraine averaged 11.5 votes per national public vote.

Sorry Cade, but in a year when all of Europe voted for an average song just to vote for Ukraine you're not right.

40 x 12 is 480.  How many did they get?  436?

Aside from the obvious, I think Ukraine deserved to win anyway.  Their song was ace. Got a real early to mid 90s feel to it.

So this year's complaint is that 200million members of the public chose to vote for Ukraine for political reasons.

And the Jury votes (which are usually the politically scored votes) should be all that mattered, just because they put the UK at the top?

At least you're not bitter 🙄

Sorry, 439, not 459.  So just about 11 per national vote.

(Sorry I didn’t mean my post to sound so hostile!  I’m a bit Linda Martin right now….)

I remember seeing a TV show she was on - it was a chat show or something and she took a dislike to someone in the audience.  Tell you what, you’d want her in your side in a fight.

Pleased for Ukraine.
look forward to Russia hosting it next year. 👀

Well done to Sam too. Just shows what choosing a viral (for singing ability) social media personality can do.

I wonder if Russia will even report it? Other middle-eastern countries pull the plug if Israel win.

Just realised it’s 12 x 39 (because they  can’t vote for themselves) 468

So they got 439 out of a possible 468…

UK every other year:

"The Jury votes are overly political and rigged! Eurovision is a sham!"
:sob:

UK this year:

"The Public vote is overly political! Eurovision is a sham! We should have stuck with the result from those lovely impartial Juries!"

:lenny:

:gok:

You said that:

The public votes were clearly political.  Massively so, almost 100% so.  They were a public response to the Russian invasion.  So regardless of how political the jury votes are, the notion that the public vote "exposes the political stuff (which is all the Jury votes)" doesn't stack up.

Politics will always come into play in jury and public votes, with neighbours voting for neighbours and all that stuff, but the fact that national juries are made up of performers, writers and critics means that some recognition of the quality of songwriting and performance has a chance of coming into play. But regardless of how political the two lots of votes are, the main difference between the jury and public votes isn't that one is more political than the other - it's simply that the political dynamics are different.  Apologies, but your original assertion really doesn't hold up.  The political stuff doesn't get exposed by one vote or the other - they are both political, in their own different ways.

By the way, can you explain this line?

"At least you're not bitter 🙄 "

Given that I had no dog in this particular fight, I'm not sure what you mean.
