I generally vote Lib Dem to keep the Nats out in Edinburgh West.

When are those ferries getting delivered?

Still waiting for to see the legal advice on your Indy Ref 2.  I guess that means it isn't good news for trying to circumvent Westminster?

Getting on topic, why did the SNP/Labour cartel in Edinburgh ignore the public consultation on Spaces for People and plough on regardless?  Add in Nucky's example of Corstorphine parking.

These people don't believe in democracy.  Crooks and liars.

That’s enough about the Tolies what about the other parties.

In a nutshell. You have to wonder what the SNP would have to do for some people to not vote for them. The good thing is that at local elections people are generally more likely to vote for a new party, but I do think some of the cultish SNP fans will plough on regardless even though this has nothing to do with independence.

I expect the SNP and the Tories to suffer losses in Edinburgh, Liberals to pick up a few seats, Labour also to probably capitalise. Hope the Greens don't profit but they likely will.

Why would you vote for the same local government we have in SNP & LABOUR combo we have in Edinburgh yet again? Any reason?

The Greens are the most pointless party there is, bring absolutely nothing to the table. As for the SNP, I still don't know how anyone can vote them in, well past their sell by date and only have one focus that causes division and chaos.

I'm voting for the Tory guy in Murrayfield/Corstorphine ward.

A local lad who went to Roseburn primary.

I like how he's fighting against all the failure policies that the Edinburgh council are forcing through.

The latest one is charging for parking in residential areas around Corstorphine, even though the locals rejected the proposals

Hell has to freeze over before i would every vote for a Tory..

Is Corstorphine not a Tory held seat.

What other "failure policies" are there that you speak off??

None of the political parties care about the environment IMO, all in it for themselves. The political parties in Scotland amongst the worst (all of them). Lining their pockets at the taxpayers expense for little in return.

Taking away the state of the streets, the overgrown grass, overflowing bins, potholes on the roads etc.

Spaces for people

Bringing in parking charges and permits for areas miles away from the City centre against residents wishes

Charging £25 to pick up your garden waste, then increasing it to £35.

Extortionate on street parking charges.

Ridiculous, over zealous planning department

Serious failures in their care services for young people.

Can you name anything good that they've done?

You're so obsessed with Westminster and the Tories that you're totally ignoring local issues

The Barnett formula gave Scotland 30% more funding per person than England

Spending in Scotland 30 per cent higher per person than in England because of Barnett formula, says IFS (holyrood.com)

If you want to see how this Council has failed the people of Edinburgh, just visit Roseburn.

Good to see the shopkeepers are trying to fight back before they go under.

PS don't know why that is 90 degrees out

The Libertarian Party certainly have " interesting " policies.  Just been reading their manifesto too. Heres their view on the welfare state

"The Scottish Libertarians reject the premise of the welfare state that the government has a moral duty to provide for the poor and elderly and services to the community, such as free healthcare, free museums, free education, and free activity and recreational centres.  The problem with this premise is that nothing is free.  It is paid for through taxation, which means taking money by the threat of force from several individuals to satisfy the needs or desires of other individuals.

The welfare state seems like a good thing and many people have reaped the benefits of it over the decades, but overall it has led to an increase in poverty, a decline in educational standards, and a decline in the overall quality of healthcare.  More importantly, it has eroded the character of the people of Scotland as they have become increasingly dependent on the state and less self-sufficient."

Famous 1874

My ward has:

2 Tory (vile scum)

2 snp (uneducated scum)

1 labour (already failed in the current SNP / labour coalition)

1 liberal democrat

1 Scottish green (aka the SNP)

1 Scottish family party??

1 Scottish libertarian party??

Seeing as Edinburgh is a disgrace under the current SNP / Labour coalition and the fact that I absolutely hate the SNP and the tories, I don’t really have much of a choice than to vote Liberal Democrats in this one.

Sounds like same ward as mine.  Not much of a choice eh?  I feel like just writing something on the ballot paper as a protest vote really.

Easy decision, no point in voting for the status quo, any change can only be an improvement, Lib Dems is the roll of the dice and  worth a try Edinburgh is a disgrace under this present council

If the First Minister cant even answer a simple question honestly they wont be getting my vote

"Speaking ahead of Thursday’s local elections, she argued that to “oversimplify” the debate around trans rights would cause suffering to a vulnerable group.

Asked to define the word woman, she said: “I’m not going to. I’m just not going to get into this debate at a level that’s about simplified and lurid headlines.”

Most people probably feel like that but I’d worry about someone’s mental health if they voted in the same Edinburgh council. No doubt the snp will be rejoicing by how many seats they win but this vote really should be about local issues.

They promised to build 50,000 social housing at the last election.

Do you know how many were built?

Yes, 41,364 affordable homes were built, with progress badly affected by covid.

28,154 of the planned 35,000 social housing (not 50,000) was built, again with progress decimated by covid.

The Libertarians have had a fair bit of in-fighting recently and will hopefully sort themselves out to become a credible force in Scottish politics in the future.

Well I agreed in principle with some of their policies , they align with much of my thinking ( lack of state involvement with its citizens ) , however I was alarmed at their policies regarding the welfare state and how to “ fix “ it , (relying on charities etc )
