Especially, the big 6 clubs. Newcastle supporters still do as do Man Utd but Chelsea, Arsenal & Spurs not so much. Is it due to safety or temperature. Does anybody know the reason? Probably because (sadly) there’s still a stigma about being a football fan, lots of fans from clubs you mention are gentrified!

spirt of 98
Canny beat a twirly under the lights on a European night in the shed with the floodlight glinting of the white of the scarfs. Being a Jambo is the best!

Jambo-Fox
There’s never anything better than a good ‘twirly’! Although a great Hearts TIFO is nearly as good! Imagine a combo, a ‘twirly tifo’!!

A Shoreditch Heart
The first time I did this in the mid seventies, we used to call it the 'whirly' after an old American TV show about guys in helicopters that they always showed on the telly during the school holidays in that period -

Late 80s and early 90s it was often sung when Rangers started their Rule Britania stuff. Its actually fascinating how different songs go in and out of fashion at clubs. For instance I just can't imagine Hearts signing YNWA just as I'm sure some would be surprised that once upon a time Flower of Scotland was sung at Tynie. Jamhammer
I remember after the Derek o Connor game at ER (early 80’s) coming onto Easter Rd from Albion Road and all the way up to London Rd all you could see was the “whirlygig”

Twirly sounds like a magazine for pre-teen girls. Absolutely. It was the "helicopter" at Easter Road in 1981/82. Probably before, according to others.
