:)

I've had lots of National winners.  Main bet Minella Times last year.

HeartsandonlyHearts

Mt Ida

Fiddlerontheroof

Good Boy Bobby

I honestly have no idea.

Hope it’s on TV here.
Remember the first time my Dad let us kids bet on it. 72 or 73. I picked the horse Crisp. Think he came second to Red Rum.

Always loved the National.

Lucinda Russell a 4/1 winner and 100/1 third today - mon Mighty Thunder for Scotland in the national

How on earth is Minella Times being backed into favourite? It's only had two very poor outings over 2m4f since winning last year.  Fair enough you can work it at home for distance and stamina but nothing like National distance over those fences.

Ditto. And Ahoy Senior easily winning a Grade 1 Chase with my money on his back. Could win a Chelteham Gold Cup and might be Scotlands best ever Chaser.

Probably because it's ridden by Blackmore and trainer is De Bromhead.

You can't count them out.

I reckon Snow Leopardess becomes first mum to win national.

Havent quite a few winners of late just had a couple of jogs round over hurdles to protect the handicap mark - it’s not like this horse can’t do it and as you say you tipped it up last year

Nowhere near the lottery it once was and these days itsmore likely the winner will come from the top of the betting. That said, its two outsiders for me e.w

Domain de l'isle 125/1

Denise Aba 66/1

Bet365 are offering you your each way stake back when you place a bet, so I've picked 20 of them at 75p each way

Hoping for one of the 100/1+ shots to win!

A winner, or a couple of places makes a profit on a £15 investment.  That's about all I can hope for with the way my luck is on the horses. Used up my entire luck after winning £400 off a free £5 bet combination tricast a month or so ago

I respect why you can feel that James., especially after there were two horse fatalities in the last couple of outings after nearly a decade without any.

But.  Consider.  As an example when i won my trophy's in the ring, some people  said it was barbaric grown men assaulting each other.  But i never had such a rush as when i competed.  These horses will have the same adrenalin - its what they are bred for.

I think the real cruelty is the failed horses that get shipped to France for the Abattoir, and, in connection, what they do to retired greyhounds.

They did make the race safer, the recent two deaths show it still isn't safe enough and that should be addressed, but believe me, you can't make a horse do something it doesn't want to.

Hi

You were able to consent to box in the ring. Those poor horses cant consent. Just awful really.  Its one of these things we will look back on in a few years and wonder how we allowed this to happen. If mankind is still about . :(

Some way to go into retirement. Cracking ride from Waley-Cohen and gives massive boost to Ahoy Senior for next year's race.

Nothing wrong with National Hunt and those who don't appreciate it can go and **** right off. They know nothing and bleat on from a position of ignorance.

What a load of pish.

These poor horses my arse, they are doing the thing they love and are bred for. If they didn't like racing, they wouldn't race and the jockey could do nothing.

Go and do some research.

You must lead a very blessed life if you've got time to worry about horses.

Between the two athletes no - if they are similar skill and weight it is one of the purest form of competition.

As for the industry, it is akin to porn having baying crowds watch tow lads, because they just want hurt

Put bets on for me, mum and dad. All 3 of us got horses that placed. That alone is a miracle. I won’t be giving up work any time soon though.

No one can make a horse run or jump if it doesn't want to. They often refuse.

And not once have I ever seen a horse stop to check on the jockey it's unshiped

half agree with you also partly agree with captains log

in years from now statues of otherwise good people who were meat eaters / jockeys / dog-sleigh racers  will probably be toppled by the mob and thrown in the river

not just the grand national though the full racing industry ?

Jumped on Longhouse Poet last minute as I hadn't had a chance to look at the years National whatsoever. Made a little EW profit.

Winner was impressive!

My £15 investment returned £10.60.  Smashing.

It's getting punted on a double tomorrow which will also lose, so it'll be turkey dinosaurs, chips, and beans instead of anything expensive!

You're right. Humans and Horses may enjoy fighting and racing, but most do it cause they have to and for others to slaver at the Mooth about and make money.

This you can't make a horse do it, is a load of pish. They've been tamed and are slaves to habit. Put a jockey on a Feral Mustang, then I'll watch.

And what else can boxers do? Doorman, bodyguard, University Aye, when they're in a jar, being looked at for brain damage.

I heard the horse broke it’s pelvis and was put down later

lots of horses recover from a broken pelvis and can even race again

this horse was 8 year old so arguably  the pelvis injury was not 100% clear at the time whether it was treatable hence the reason not making the decision there and then -  unfortunately it proved not to be treatable

areas like this is where anti-horse racing / anti-grand national debaters let themselves down - there are plenty areas to raise very genuine concerns about and whether the industry is / can properly address them without trying to shoe-horn incidents into the argument where the particular context of the incident can be defended which helps to dilute some of the more fundamental points they have

actually I think the broken pelvis horse was a different one :(

the pelvis treatment etc still stands but a different unfortunate horse
