A few yeas ago this new would have sparked celebrations, now it's just apathy. I absolutely do not get the hate. Yes, she made some bungled decisions, like bringing in J J Abrams, who proceeded to J J Abrams all over the main story. But she brought on Favreau and Gilroy, controversially in the latter's case, and all he did was go on to make Andor, which is either the second best or best ever Star Wars property, bar none, depending on whom you ask and what mood they're in. Disney made way too much Star Wars, way too fast, and that resulted in some absolute stinkers like that wretched Kenobi series. But Tony Gilroy has very clearly shown she was right to bring him in to salvage Rogue One and to give him plenty of lead time. I think it's not sparking celebrations because her critics have had to concede that Andor ****ing ruled.
Cade Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Rogue One and Andor are shining diamonds in a giant pile of watery shite that Lucasfilm has sharted out over the last ten years. The sequels were all awful, with no clear plan having been in place going into them. You cannot just make it up as you go along. Not with a franchise this big and this old with that much money at stake. Rogue One was great, but was saved in post production after lots of re-writes, re-shoots and heavy re-editing. A decent chunk of footage in the trailer wasn't in the final film. Solo was pish. Kenobi was supposed to be a film but after Solo bombed, they made it into a TV show and had to pad out the run-time with utter guff. It ended up being an embarrassment. Mandalorian seasons 1&2 were good, then it shat the bed with season 3. Book of Boba Fett was so bad they gave up halfway through and made it Mandalorian Season 2.5 instead. Ahsoka was piss boring and a terrible way to end the story told in Rebels. Less said about The Acolyte the better. Skeleton Crew was actually good but by the time it came out everybody had given up on Disney Star Wars so nobody watched it. There's also been lots of animated series which barely anybody has watched. Andor is by far the best thing Disney have done with the franchise. And this is not counting the many (MANY) announced then cancelled projects along the way. Rangers of the New Republic TV show A Jabba the Hutt film The Game of Thrones guys rushed and ruined that franchise in order to helm a Star Wars film that then got cancelled. That is hubris. Knights of the Old Republic film Kevin Feige was doing something but we don't know what because it got cancelled Rogue Squadron film Rian Johnson was supposed to do a whole new trilogy but after he made The Last Jedi and was savaged by critics and fans that got scrapped David Fincher was supposedly doing something that went nowhere Some Ben Solo thing It's been a feckin mess. There's been no creative control. And that's Kennedy's fault. Just scattergunning shite at the walls hoping some of it would stick. 14 years of ineptitude.
hughesie27 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 (edited) Weird cause I didn't mind most of what they've put out. 3rd season of Mandalorian was bad though. Just couldn't get into Andor though even though its widely celebrated. Might give it a go again one day. Strangely having never seen or even known anything about Rebels I quote liked Ahsoka. neilnunb Posted April 16 Posted April 16 🤣 looks like Han was based on the Power of the Force figures from the '90s. 💪
