 😔

Grew up watching him bowl and then commentate. Delivered one of the best ever balls in the history of cricket and inspired a brilliant song from the Divine Comedy’s Neil Hannon:

Was my eldest boy's hero when he played for Hampshire.

RIP Mr Warne and thanks for giving a teenage boy lots of pleasure on the Cricket pitch.

Very sad news. He was a real character from a time when cricket had a fair few of them. Some spin bowler as well!

Saw him play a couple of times live for Australia.Absolute class

Saw a wee clip on YouTube recently where the Aussie fans were throwing bottles onto the pitch when England were batting.

They called Warne out from the dressing room and he put a helmet on and walked over to that section.

Immediately the crowd were laughing and bowing to him.

A one off.Thats for sure.

Just seen the news at work what a shame. He only posted a tribute 12hrs ago to Rod Marsh ❤️RIP Shane

Wow. Until I read this, didn’t realise Rod Marsh had died. RIP to both, huge characters.

He helped redevelop the game.

You look at cricket now especially T20 with off spin dominant.

There's a case to be made that Shane Warne inspired all that. When he emerged no one was bowling like him at top level.

Had only just read about Rod Marsh's (always Rodney as I recall) death in the paper before opening a few minutes later  this thread. RIP to both.

RIP
A huge character, outstanding bowler, terrific cricket analyst and commentator. Holds the record for most test runs for someone who hasn't scored a Test century

Footballfirst

Disgraceful stuff from Celtic in reporting Shane's passing. Anything to promote a club sponsor.

https://www.celticfc.com/news/2022/march/04/condolences-after-the-passing-of-australian-cricket-legend--shane-warne-/

The Celtic manager, who had spoken with Shane Warne, who was also a Dafabet ambassador, during the recent Ashes series held in Australia, said: “This is absolutely devastating news to lose Shane, particularly at such a relatively young age, and my heart goes out to his whole family.

Would you like me to have a few beers and get emosh so it gives you some target practice?

If I was him I'm certain my last words would have been, ah well at least I had Liz Hurley.

It's a bit of a shock when they start going younger than you.

Brilliant bowler and a character in the sport.

Woke up to this news via a text from my son. This city's most famous son is dead and the shock will be palpable. The greatest bowler ever. RIP.

Steve Irwin disagrees with this post.  I told Barry Humphries to feck off.

As I understand it, I imagine that there was some Colombian product in his health regime. I also imagine that I'd have a heart attack if I took the same stuff in the same quantities.

Mind you, I'm not sure I should really have the number of cappuccinos that it takes to get my day rolling. So I won't judge.

But he was definitely on it.

That's not something I ever read, but I have to admit that whenever someone's heart gives up in their early 50s I'm inclined to wonder.

There are always going to be a few raised eyebrows if a rich westerner dies of a heart attack in Thailand.
