Lord Beni of Gorgie

I think we have the 2nd XI in place now bar a keeper, 3 out of the final 4 pieces I think will be "pleasing"

Pleased with the signings thus far. I think tho we will use a 3-4-3 formation at times that the squad suits a 4-2-3-1. Current starters baring injury for me is:

                   Gordon

Natty   Halkett   Rowles   Kingsley

               Beni    Haring

     Forrest    Grant    McKay

                     Boyce

With support coming from Cammy, Smith, Neilson, Cochrane, Gino, Sibbick & Halliday

Can see McEneff & GMS moving on
For me Boyce & Gino can cover both striker and supporting attacker roles but should be 3rd & 4th picks for the striker role and back ups for the starting attackers. Would love to see Shankland in that striker role feeding of the creativity behind him and someone to challenge him.
If we play 3 at the back Kingsley can shift inside and Cochrane/Halliday can come into LWB and we will still have Smith, Sibbick & Neilson for back up.

So I personally would like to see 2 strikers (Hopefully Shanks & Simms fighting it out for starts), another attacker, replacement keeper and possibly another right back as I am yet to be convinced that Natty is the answer (especially if we play a back 4) - have said before that I would push him further forward and have him play as an attacker.
Shaping up nicely tho.

It’s a common name here in Portugal, its pronounced as George, if his folks wanted to cause real chaos they should have called Joao, that comes out as sh- wow.

fecking olly lee, give me strength

We plucked Olly Lee out of League 2 Luton at the time. This lad has played significantly higher level than that consistently, Olly Lee is no comparison

And also Lee was not a bad player, not sure why he is given so much hate and a negative comparison. Boggling

Lee was utter toilet and there’s a reason he plays for Gillingham now.

In fairness to Lee he was good when he had Haring next to him to do all the dirty work. As soon as Haring got injured we didn't have that type of player next to him

I was very pessimistic about Grant at first since he was on the L1 transfer list, but as we've learned a bit more about him he's starting to sound a bit better and now that he's signed (apparently in preference to Connor Ronan) then lets see what he can do. Have a feeling he's one of these players who might not start every game but is there to offer something different and to rotate in and out of the starting 11. Just need to wait and see. The attributes we've learned about over the last few days sound quite appealing though:

- Quick reactions

- Punishes defensive errors

- Decent finisher

- Free kick specialist

- Can whip in a corner

- Successful penalty taker

More than willing to give the guy a chance and hope he's successful.

Don't forget guile. Apparently he has guile. We haven't had guile for a while

Based on additions over the weekend, we could have two XIs made up:

                          Gordon

Atkinson   Halkett  Rowles  Kingsley

                  Beni       Devlin

Forrest            Grant           McKay

                        Boyce

                            Stewart

M. Smith    Neilson    Sibbick  Cochrane

                   Haring     Halliday

Ginnelly             McEneff            GMS

                          Henderson

We do need a back up keeper, and a new striker. But depth wise we are very strong. I do think we have built the squad capable for to secure third while playing in Europe. We can now look to the players who help best in Europe.

I'd like another winger as well to replace Woodburn. I'm not sure Forrest is going to be a first team stalwart and that we might need another in that area.

If we're going to play 4 at the back like a lot seem to think then we need a right back imo. Really rate Atkinson as a rwb but not sure about him as a rb defensively.

Nice try at what? And yes I realise he played in the championship last year. But he doesn’t appear to have been a standout. Hopefully I’m wrong.

A standout in the English Championship would cost 10s of Millions! 😀

I mean, even Ross McCormack cost 11M in 2014!

No chance we're signing a right back with Smith and Atkinson already there. Sure Atkinson player right back against Peru in the WCQF?

Add simms and Shankland to replace Boyce and Henderson.

Boyce/grant AM instead of mceneff

A backup goalie

A random WOW signing

and we are anti niemi in this transfer market

edit: unless the wow signing is a winger I’d take one of them too maybe.

Couple of guys at my work down south support Oxford and Cambridge. I asked them if they rated Jorge Grant when they watched him for Peterborough, and both more or less said the same.

"He always stood out when he played against us".

I’ve had the same from Luton and Cambridge supporting mates who described him as a very tasty player

We've signed lots of players when we've already had a few for that position. I don't think Smith is up to starting every game for a whole season any more...as much as I rate him at rb still.

Personally I think we'll play 3 at the back, partly due to Atkinson and also having Kingsley and Cochrane plus a lots of centre backs (if we sign at least one other as touted)

Can only see a young development signing at right back with a view to replacing Smith for 2023/24 season. I think Atkinson and Smith will do for

this season.

May well be the case. Think we'll be weak down that side if we play as a 4 predominantly, however I reckon we'll play a 3 and when we sporadically play a 4 then Smith will come in

Rowles has the wow factor for me

I don’t doubt he’ll turn out to be an excellent signing, but he’s too much of an unknown quantity to really have the ‘wow’ factor. I’ve never seen him play, and most people on here will have only seen him play v Peru at most.

Of course we’re not going to sign any players who are household names. They’ll be way out of our price range. I’m thinking more of signings like Beni - players who we wouldn’t expect to consider coming to the club in the post-Romanov era.

Does Logan not play at RB?  Just wondering if there's any chance he could be brought into the first team squad this season as back up.

I read that he was a MF but RN saw him as a defender.

He is a big unit apparently and playing him RB could be CalPat mark 2.
